Engagement ring shopping
I'm hopefully going to be the proud owner of an engagement ring by the end of the year. OH wants to get me something nice (of his own choosing
) and as much as I'd love to hold him to the 'month salary' tradition, I've no chance!!
Where will he get nice rings that won't break the bank? I imagine his budget will be somewhere between £500-£1000, but this is a wild guess. I can then show him some sites/shops, so he doesn't pay silly prices or get ripped off.
I've been looking at those shopping channels, similar to QVC - where the price starts at something silly, and comes right down. What are the products like on there, does anyone know?
Thanks in advance!

Re: Engagement ring shopping
not sure about the shopping channels.
DP got mine from clive ranger. But we were in wiltshire then so not sure where they are and if you can buy online.
Goldsmiths is nice and in winchester there are some lovely little jewelers down the little streets.
How lovely!!!

Do not go to any high street chains like Ernest Jones or Goldsmiths. They will rob you blind. You can get a lot more from your money somewhere like the the Jewellery Quarter in Birmingham. http://www.jewelleryquarter.co.uk/ A lot of the Jewellery is hand made there and you can get some nice individual pieces and probably have something commissioned for a reasonable amount of money.

Re: Engagement ring shopping
I was going to suggest going to somewhere where you can get them done.
Someone at work got a ring for his girlf. Should have cost about £1500 but he got it for £900 and he picked type o diamond he wanted etc.
It was beautiful
I'll see if i can find out the name of company and let you know. Was a small company. Down Stoke way I think

Mr Minky looked at Tiffany's and in the end got a bigger, better diamond for much less money at our local jewellers (who also have shops in Hatton Garden).
Totally agree to avoid the high street shops at any cost.

Re: Engagement ring shopping
Mr Scrobble got my engagement ring made from a costume jewellery ring I had and loved which the stone had fallen out of, I didn't even know he'd sent the broken one away. It's a white gold flower and leaves with a diamond in the middle.
If I were you, I would get one made if that's a feasible option, as it's more personal.

Re: Engagement ring shopping
How about a used ring - there are some beautiful antique rings out there. I have a dress ring from the 1920's that is so art deco - beautiful. Some of the Victorian rings are stunning. (marcasite is making a big comeback too in the jewellery world and there are plenty of victorian rings with this stone in)
....she would have been nice looking if she hadn't been wearing a look that suggested there was a nasty smell under her nose..........
