My blood pressure (again) sorry.
Its still not gone down and the doctor is now sending me for a chest xray, an ECG and i have to do a 24 hour urine output thingy which involves carrying round a 4 litre container for a day and filling it with pee
Nice!!
Anyway my questions, why the chest xray and urine thingy??? Can work say anything about the amout of time off i'm having?

Re: My blood pressure (again) sorry.
The chest Xray will most likely be to assess heart size as very very rarely problems with the heart can cause high BP, especially in young people - although I've never seen one.
The 24hr urine thing again is a very rare problem - I don't think I've ever seen that either. You can get problems with your adrenal glands (little glands that sit above the kidneys) which can cause high BP. That can be picked up by analysing how much of a certain chemical is excreted by the kidneys.
I can sympathise with the icky-ness of a 24hr urine. We had to do one as part of a biochem practical at uni
Both things are very very rare and it just sounds like your GP is covering everything. BTW you're not on the pill are you ?

Thanks angel
And no he refused to put me on the combined which is how all these tests and monitoring started and i tried the mini pill (micronor) but i became an emotional wreck so stopped taking it.
My mum has high bp and an enlarged heart.

Re: My blood pressure (again) sorry.
Have you had a monitor to take home for a week to check it isnt just when you are in the surgery that you unknowingly get anxious, how high is it or do you not want to put on here, mine was a lot higher after having T but has gone down since being pregnant again, although it will always be called borderline highish for my age - 130/78 ish most of the time it is.

Re: My blood pressure (again) sorry.
DH had the same tests a couple of weeks ago - the 24 hour urine thing was so funny, as we had a really busy day and had to carry this giant bottle around with us everywhere (and this thread reminds me to get the results of it tommorrow for him).
The doctor told him it was just to rule out every possible cause before deciding that it was hereditary.

Re: My blood pressure (again) sorry.
I had to do the 24 hour urine thing and have an ECG when I had high BP when I was pregnant - nothing showed up though.
I did the wee thing on a Sunday and just didn't go out.... no way was I carrying that bottle around with me, it was bad enough having to take it back to the hospital on the tube.
Hope everything is ok

Re: My blood pressure (again) sorry.
hope they get to the bottom of it Petrus. The wee thing is not glamourous to do but at least it rules some things out if all is OK.
When they were investigating mine they suggested having a monitor at home or going to the chemist everyday and having it checked so that you get some readings done when you're not at the doctors to see if it really is high consistently or just related to when you see a doctor. I've been on medication for 8 years now and it's been lowered effectively (apart from now due to pg).
Work can't say anything if you're off sick and having tests etc. I hope that they don't hassle you about it.** Z 02/08/11 **
