Hand foot and mouth
Thanks to those of you that replied to my other thread yesterday about Craig being ill/spotty.
This morning still no spots on his tummy or back, but low and behold there are some on the palms of his hand.
I think we've got off lucky as he's eating this morning (waffles!) so he's obviously not got any IN his mouth although they are all around his mouth.
How long will he get spots for? Should I expect him to get ill again?
Will everyone in the house get it now???

Re: Hand foot and mouth
Hi - you have probably googled this etc now but seeing as I am up - if it is hand foot and mouth it is one of those things you can have and never know you had it or be quite ill. From memory it lasted about 4 days - I guess it would depend on how good his immune system is. E had blisters on the soles of her feet too and the tongue ones came up a couple of days in - she was solely breastfed at the time and we had problems getting anything into her.
Hoping that as bad as he is as bed as it gets for you.
If you are worried with being pg then I don't know the correct info but just to reassure you that neither myself or OH got it, and I have never known of an adult to get it amongst the people I know whose kids have had it.
When E had it the spots were more on the finger tips, foot soles and tongue.
Hope you are not too worried and well vibes to Craig xxx
ETA just saw about calling in sick - I think you would expect a few days to go by before you got it if you did, also L may well get it but not have any symptoms at all.Last edited by Azana; 20-09-2008 at 07:21am.

Re: Hand foot and mouth
Thanks Az...I'm relatively calm about it. As I'm past the first trimester it seems the biggest problem if I catch it would be a high fever and what that can bring with it...so as long as I take paracetemol as soon as I feel unwell I should be able to avoid any problems.
He doesn't even have any on the soles of his feet, they are all around the feet though. Honestly, I hope this is it (he threw up a few days ago, so we're on day 4 already!) he only has some on the palm of his hands, up his legs and bum, on his feet (which are obviously tender as he was crying getting socks on/off yesterday) and around his mouth. None in his mouth from what I can tell and have googled and apparently the mouth ulcers don't HAVE to happen....so fingers crossed.
He's never really been sick to be honest, and as he's unvaccinated against everything this is the first real time his immune system has had a "workout" so to speak...he seems to be doing okay!

Re: Hand foot and mouth
Fingers crossed for you that he is well soon xxxx
As I said on Minky's thread I think my kids have had every odd childhood disease going - I think just to disprove that breast fed children thing - sigh. Hope he gets spared the mouth ulcers.

Re: Hand foot and mouth
Hey MG, was going to do a post to you and Minky this am to see how Craig and T2 were (couldn't post last night as was reading on my phone).
Alex never got spots on the soles of his feet but got them on top and on the palms, his mouth was the worst though and it was only when the doc looked inside that we saw quite how bad it was. Poor lamb. Sounds like Craig's isn't too bad there though, which is a relief. If it gets worse, cold foods are best. Oh and we gave Alex lots of banana milkshake and disguised his medicine in that as, although he loves it normally, he wouldn't let us put anything IN his mouth but the cold milk was perfect.
Neither me nor DH got HFM and surprisingly neither did T - given the amount of kissing Alex does with her (and dummy stealing) we thought it was inevitable but thankfully not.
Hope Craig is okay soon, oh Alex's lasted at least a week but I think that's because he had it really bad in his mouth.
We had to keep him off nursery for a week and posters went up at school to warn other parents.

Re: Hand foot and mouth
squeaker - did it last a week from the fever before the spots or from the spots?
He's away out with daddy this morning and has been running around like usual...he seems to be over all the feeling icky part of it!

Re: Hand foot and mouth
Pre spots, he was ill for a week but 4 days we had no clue what was wrong with him. Alex functioned well except after nap time and feeding time.
Hope Craig stays on form
