    Tell me about Netmums

I've heard of itand have had a quick squizz abot the site but for some reason that I can't put my finger on I'm feeling wary of it. I've got the impression that some people have had bad experiences but I'm not sure if that's true or just my perception.

So..what's it all about and have you made friends with it? Or have you had bad experiences?

    Re: Tell me about Netmums

I have bought and sold a few bits on there but not contacted anyone to meet up - the messages from people in the last area we lived in seemed a bit txt spk for me, and when we moved here, there was no-one with children the same age near enough to make me want to get in touch.

One of my friends has made a good friend through netmums though, and I have seen it mentioned on here several times in a positive way.

There is a lot of txt-speaky Netmums in my area too, I'd like to make some friends but haven't really seen any ads where I have thought I would get on well with them.

I've not used it so nothing to report.

Didn't BJMac get 'stalked' by an overkeen netmum user? I think that's the only way I've heard it mentioned in a negative way on here

    Re: Tell me about Netmums

I made a couple of good friends through there, and they were really my lifelines in the early days as they'd be in exactly the same boat as me, with a newborn (well 8/10 weeks old)- wanting to just sit and chat about babies, life etc- and we met up SEVERAL times a week in local Starbucks, Costa etc cafes.

It was nice, as they could both be called the same morning and we'd sort of go "Costa- 1 pm?"- Yep! See you there" and for me it was so nice having people nearby available to meet and chat with, when I was off work..

    I'd reccomend it!

    Re: Tell me about Netmums

I've not had a great experience with the only person I have met from netmums but for an entirely different reason!

I guess it's a bit like NCT groups and things, the thing you will have in common is children and being in the same area- and you might find the friends of your life or the complete opposite. In most cases the latter won't be a problem and I also know of someone who was 'stalked' from NCT groups!

Don't like the whole use your name though- what's all that about?

I've never used it but have had a look at my local pages tonight prompted by this thread. It's about equally divided between the 18 yr old txt spkrs and older people who use whole sentences. Mind you, that's broadly representative of parenting in my area

    Re: Tell me about Netmums

my friend used netmums to post horrid things about me, about how i was a competative parent had to buy what she bought and was a single white female type character then told me to sign up and join the forum so i did, i read said posts was utterly devestated fell out with said friend stopped childminding her daughter and lost over a stone in weight due to stress. so i steer clear now nothing to do with the site tho

eta;txt speak doesnt bother me i think im guilty of using it sometimes i find it easier to get everything im thinking typed out

Yes it was me with the 'overkeen netmum' . Thank god, she got the hint after loads and loads of unanswered tests .

I have actually been speaking to a couple more on e mail in the last week or so, and they sound very normal , so might arange to meet up with those soon .

I'd say go for it Janice - you never know, you might meet some great people - and even if you don;t hit it off, it'll be an outing for you and Oscar .
