How old is your little boy-
"Are you...... five??"
We were on the bus and sat next to this woman around my age, and she smiled at Theo in his buggy, and after he'd been chatting to me for a while, saying things like "Look mummy the paint's come off" (The handrail on bus) and "I want it" (about a womans apple), she said to me "how old is he?", and looked at Theo and said "Are you five?"
Haaahaaa, OMG!
I mean, I know he is big and talks well, but FIVE
Later, he was having a majoooorrrrrr tantrum in his buggy, but to be fair to him, it had been a very long day, we waited for 45 mins for a bus etc, and it was 6.15 pm..
Some girl came over and started stroking his cheek saying "What's wrong little boy, why are you crying?"...
He stopped - of course, and she kept talking with/to him..
After a while she asked him how old he was and he said (proudly) "Two in March" (bless, have tried telling him it IS March now..)
Anyway, she said "Noo, you are older than that" and turned to ask me "Is he 3-4?", and I confirmed he is indeed 23 months old.
Is it really that hard to guess kids ages
If he was 3-5 years old, I am sure he wouldn't be in buggy (ok maybe at 3, but 5...
), and surely his speech would be better than what it is too...?
I was just so shocked

His speech sounds really good
.
I took E and J to get passport photos taken yesterday. The woman in the post office was struggling to get a shot of Evie with her mouth closed, so she asked me how old they are. When I said three, she said oh, that's ok then, if children are under five they can have an open mouth in a passport photo.
I was a bit
, they're not big three year olds, and surely a five year old would be at school during the day.
Oh well, I suppose if you don't know the child it can be a bit hard to guess.

FF that's a bit mad, and yes- wouldn't they be at school at 5
I am not excellent at guessing ages, but guessing a not even 2 yr old to be 5 is a bit mad

And conversely, a lot of people used to ask me incredulously what the age gap between my two was/is - as if one were eight or nine months younger.

I think when they can speak well people assume they are older, Z was always mistaken for a child at least a yr older.

Re: How old is your little boy-
People always think E is older. They believe her when she says that she wil be 4 next birthday! Though recently she decided that she is going to be 6!
I think she looks small for her age so get confused when people mix her age up. But her speach is good and it suprises me when other children of a similar age don't speak as well. I have nothing to compare to so don't know if she is normal for her age.
Going off topic, sorry
