  • Braun thermometer - urgent help please

Before I sling the effing thing down the garden

It started by saying "Lo" so I changed the batteries. New ones. It still says "Lo" Then it worked - it's been saying M's temp has been as high as 41.9 degrees He's not been well and his temp has really been fluctuating. We've had that reading a number of times - he's completely been burning up last night and today. Took him to the Drs - he cooled right down, he looked like a different child - went into town for a coffee, singing dancing, nowt wrong with him, slightly warm. But very quiet for M.

Didn't want to go swimming - v unusual. Came home, burning up, thermometer doesn't work again. This time says "Hi"

Change batteries. Nothing. Says "hi" then says "lo". Take my temp - ooh it works, 37ish which is normal for me.

    Then take M's again and it's 41.6

Dosed up with medicine, cooling him down, but I need to carry on trying to temp him.

But this FECKING braun thingy - WHAT does Lo or Hi mean???? someone knows.

It sounds fooked tbh, if a thermometer says hi or lo I usually means the readings out of range.

Would it mean an abnormal low or high temp to start, when you then put it on the body it will change for the reading...

Mine never says hi but does say lo when i turn it on (but its not a braun)

Re: Braun thermometer - urgent help please

I've got a braun, and looking at the instruction book, 'lo' means a temp that is too low, and 'hi' is 'temperature is not within typical human temperature range (34-42.2 C)'. Under 'solution' it says 'Make sure a new, clean lens filter is attached, and thermometer is correctly inserted. Then, take a new temperature'

HTH, and that M feels better soon

Thanks Lili. From that I'm going to assume that yes, it's fooked

Oh well, it's done nearly 6 years so I think I've probably had my money's worth!

Off to order a new one from Amazon.

He's fine bless him, just a bit all over the place and not himself. I won't open the windows in the boys bedroom and so he's currently asleep in our room in a little sweaty heap on the bed

Re: Braun thermometer - urgent help please

Bear in mind the weather in general could be causing it to malfunction- it could be having trouble reading a temperature when the ambient is so high...

I replaced mine -because it was doing just that.
Lo- means too low to be read. & that's clearly not right for a child as it should give a normal reading of 36 or higher.

So yes, I'd get a new one.

Ours did that - after I dropped it in the toilet!
We had to replace it eventually too.

Re: Braun thermometer - urgent help please

We have every concieviable thermometer going, we have spent a fortune on Brauns, scanners and a few inbetween, however all of the consultants and specialist advice their oncology patients to use an under the Arm thermometer sold in Boots for 6. If an oncology patient gets a temp it ia normally in an ambulance straight to hospital - so the thermometer is very important in the oncology world.
