  • Cream or White Gloss Kitchen, what worktops?

I'm almost there with choosing my kitchen. Now a worktops question.

Before today I just wanted black granite worktops.

Now they're going to take a further 6 weeks at least after the kitchen is installed. Worth the wait??

I also like wooden worktops but how are they in reality? Do they scratch and stain easily? I know about sanding & oiling them but do they warp around the sink? Go mouldy?

Pics appreciated if you have any

No idea but I think wooden ones would be lush

I'd say wait, if they're REALLY what you want. That's what I'd go for - I love the contrast between black granite and white/cream gloss!

I have Howden's Glendevon in white gloss and I have black speckled gloss worktops - Cairngorm I think! My carpenter advised against wooden worktops due to the up keep and we couldn't afford granite.

we have white gloss units and oak work tops. I don't have any pictures on my work laptop but there is a thread somewhere. You do have to be careful not to put hot pans directly on the wood otherwise they leave burn marks but these are easily sanded off if you do accidentally do so. No mould near sink, although we do have a very large stainless steel sink so wood not directly near taps.

We have a cream gloss kitchen (well the official colour is 'latte' but same thing - ish!) with a walnut worktop. It is a bit of a pain keeping the worktop dry all the time especially at the moment whjilst constantly washing bottles and opening a steam sterilser . I go through kitchen roll like its going out of fashion! We've had it a couple of years and OH re-oils it every now and again, we haven't got any mould on it or stains. We make sure we use a chopping board for any food prep.

Here are a couple of pics (the kitchen wasn't quite finished but you get the idea),

Really thick oak worktops will look warmest. We have a cream kitchen and thick oak worktops, and it's lush. But we are very careful not to get water on them, always wipe it if it splashes from the sink. We have an island though, so not too much of a problem. The island has a stone top and we do all our prep on it

Ooh ellabella, your house is stunning, even my 11yr old daughter has just walked past and said "that kitchen is LUSH!".

Sorry to hijack the thread BK FWIW I'd have wooden ones, I think they look warmer and prob easier than granite which will show every fingerprint.

I have white with oak worktops. I don't rate the Ikea oil, and next time we will be using the danish oil we had for the beech ones in our last house because the finish is much smoother.

Any marks can be sanded off, and you need to sand and oil approx every 6 months.

Here is a rubbish pic, excuse the mess and the guitar-playing 5 year old

I'm getting a cream matt kitchen and have chosen blue quartz surfaces (http://www.caesarstone.com/Product.aspx?productId=1641). I didn't want black and liked the idea of having some colour. The kitchen splashbacks are going to be glass which has a blue tint to it. Just need the building work to be done now!!

i will try and find the link to my kitchen but we have cream gloss and a chocolate brown quartz worktop. In my mind it was chocolate and cream.
