Just thought I'd add on my birth story for anyone considering a home birth:smile: ...It was AWESOME!!:ellie: and ive not met many people who have said that about labour:wink:
It all started on saturday 10th June at 5am. I woke cause i felt a trickle of something so i went to the loo, i wasnt conviced it was anything exciting so i went back to bed. I then woke up at 8am with a few cramps and more fluid, i got off the toilet and id also lost abit of my mucous plug, although by this point it wasnt bloody.
I wasnt too sure whether i was actually in labour, contractions didnt # hurt in the least and fluid was only leaking alittle so i went into town, did a spot of shopping and went walking in a local country park with DH in the afternoon.
Contractions were then coming about every ten minutes but still not painful, by now i was quite sure it was my waters going as id filled about five maternity pads, however it was my step dads birthday, so we went out for all you can eat chinese!! I had a great time and really enjoyed myself! I went to bed about midnight however i woke up in pain about 2am.
I woke DH up about 5am and got in the bath, i took a few paracetamols and we got up and watched cartoons(I know, sad!) We started to time contractions and they were not getting closer so we went and bought abit of food shopping just incase this was the real thing!http://talkingpoint.gomamatoday.com/images/smilies/smile.gif
By 12pm sunday, my sister thought i should ring the M.W if my waters had been leaking, i think i was still in denial, thats why i left it abit longer than i should have, however the midwife stretched me and examined me and i was 5cm dilated! She also confirmed there was no water infront of the babies head. I still wasnt in that much pain!
They sent another midwife to check me at 4, and she decided to stretch me again, this time there was alot of blood and mucous and contractions started to become thick and fast. I put my tens machine on and my sis ordered a pizza, while we were waiting for the pizza, we watched family guy! the time it took for it to be delievered things had gone up a notch and i was screaming when it arrived and didnt want to eat it!http://talkingpoint.gomamatoday.com/images/smilies/wink.gif ...God knows what the poor delievery guy was thinking!:scratchchin:
I was starting to really feel the pain about half five, by this time the midwife decided to give me gas and air, although the canister was broken!http://talkingpoint.gomamatoday.com/images/smilies/rolleyes.gif I cried at this point...Will add that i must have had the dippiest midwife in history! I look back on it funny now but at the time it wasnt really. She laughed everytime i mooed!
After this its abit of a blur, things got more painful and before i knew it i was lying on the matress in my living room trying not to push because i wasnt ready. They physically ripped the TENS machine off my back. I had my mum and a midwife holding my legs (My mum wasnt supposed to be there, she was just in the area and had popped in for a cup of tea to see how i was after saturday night, and ended up seeing the birth!) I was gripped to my hubbys arm and sisters hand!. The midwife told me to imagine pooing a melon:doh: ...yea cause we all know how that feels!
I was sooo relieved when they said i could push that i just gave it my all, she asked me to push into my bum but i was in such a tizz that i couldnt locate it so i needed abit of help! I remember the feeling when the head came out, it was such a relief, and i could also feel the head turn. It felt amazing to push her out, and although they say you forget all about it i havent and hope i never do.
She was abit blue when she came out but they gave her abit of a tap and she was fine, i gave her, her first feed a few minutes after she was born then went upstairs for a bath. I pushed her out in 23 minuteshttp://talkingpoint.gomamatoday.com/images/smilies/biggrin.gif .
It was such a lovely experience having a home birth with minimal pain relief. I didnt really use much of the gas and air cause i felt like my head was going to explode, although the tens was great. Id really recommend a home birth to anyone who has a high pain threashold. Giving birth was really not as bad as i expected and im really proud of myself for achieving my goalhttp://talkingpoint.gomamatoday.com/images/smilies/smile.gif
Sorry if my birth story was abit boring, but it was rather un eventful!http://talkingpoint.gomamatoday.com/images/smilies/tongue.gif
heres a pic of us on the day
