View Full Version : Is this a battle worth fighting?

Just pondering this really. We haven't really entered into full on tantrum territory yet though she can be an assertive little madam sometimes if she wants to do something that we stop her doing. I want to pick my battles and not constrain her too much, basically in the hope that she'll get bored with whatever it is I don't want her doing (playing with the video etc. as it doesn't do anything when the power is off at the wall) - I'm sure I'll have plenty of battles when she gets older :happyno: .
She's just started pulling herself up on the TV - now apart from sticky fingerprints is this a real problem? Should I try to stop her or just ignore the behaviour in the hope that she gets bored of it soon? She won't manage to pull it over - it's a big widescreen thing that weighs about 70kg and I can barely lift it with DH, so there's no way she'll be able to shift it. So apart from that I can't see any harm - worth fighting it or not? :scratchchin:

she might not be able to pull your tv over in your house but she might try it at someone elses house & have a nasty accident. Personally, that's a battle I'd fight.

Nah. Sticky fingersmarks on the TV will be the least of your worries once she gets properly moving!

TBH Theo did those things- play with video, pull himself up on TV etc etc, whne he was around 7-9 months and then he got bored and now he NEVER even bothers touching things in the house, apart from his toys.
My mate was here monday, and she was STUNNED we could have a massive fruitbowl out, a massive magazine pile under the table and books and plants on display, she said her daughters would wreck them.
But he doesn't - I don't know if this is because we have always shown him things, how they work, what they are, so there's no mystery for him, and he doesn't bother touching our things now..
I wouldn't bother, I let Louis touch the telly and he only gets a row if he turns it off :teehee:

I suppose it depends if you you have the energy to battle this one Duckie! Will is a very lazy baby who refuses to move so I have yet to enter this territory, but at the moment my consensus would be to let her get on with it if you're confident she won't have an accident. However, my opinion may well change once my little fella eventually gets bored of sitting and decides to move around

Hmm, that's something I hadn't considered. She wasn't pulling herself up last time we went up to my mum's, but mum has one of those LCD flat panel things which are a lot lighter - it's on a table but she could reach it if she was standing. Guess I'll see what she does over the next few days - she's not been interested in it at all so far today so hopefully she's bored of it already.
Chickster, don't worry about the lack of movement yet :happyno: . Anna only started crawling at 11m and only started pulling herself to standing 3 weeks ago - most of her friends are walking now too :teehee: . It's cheaper on shoes at the moment at least  !

We struggle with this too. The main problem is that he will not leave alone ANY buttons he finds. He has always had a thing about pushing little circles, even jeans rivets, moles on your arm etc. :loco: Then hits the screen with whatever toy he has.
Not much help I know
I wouldnt bother as its only used for pulling herself up and not interested in it per se. It will probably lose its interest in favour of somthing better, like the on/off button. Stuart doesnt bother with it now. He'd much rather the control. We have a spare one and he get that one!
