...Do you dry it before bed after the bath or leave it wet?

I don't like Lucy going to bed with wet hair especially as its going colder at night now, but I can't use a hairdryer on her surely, apart from her being terrified of it, it must be bad for their hair isn't it?

So what do you do?

Also, Lucy is getting really long hair now, but I refuse to have it cut  Has anyone else not had their daughter's hair cut yet?

I have'nt had Evie's cut yet - I can't bear to, it's so pretty!!

I normally don't wash her hair in the evnings - she comes in the shower with me in the morning and I do it then. When I do do it in the eve, I blow-dry it. I think that every now and then isn't going to hurt.

I wash carolines in the morning, I remember all too well being sent to bed with wet hair and having a sore neck the next morning.

I do use a hairdryer on it but not properly, its more messing about because she thinks its funny plus blowdried her hair is enormous

shes had only 2 haircuts so far, both done by me, and I only started doing it a couple of months ago (so not until she was 3) and I only started because I had to, it is all different lengths plus the hair was getting tatty and difficult to comb. I'm not sure what a hairdresser would say TBH, as shes got poodle hair

No way - I havent cut Lolas and dont intend to for years yet:happyno:

I only wash it twice a week as she gets a really dry scalp, but I put her to bed with damp hair, not like dripping wet or anything. The house is always quite warm and hers is so fine its bone dry within an hour. I wouldnt worry too much, I remember always going to bed with damp hair and im alright (debatable!)

eta - just seen yours about sore neck - ahhh oreilly i feel all guilty now. I hope she doesnt get a sore neck

I dry Bean Sprout's hair with a hairdryer, but I use a cool setting. I have done since she was born, she's always had a thick head of hair.

She does have regular trims though, my mum never cut my hair & it was like straggly rat tails in the end, I think regular trims keep it thick & healthier looking. You can still get it really long, just take of half an inch every 3 or 4 months, she won't lose any length.

We only wash the girls hair once a week but by the time they have had their milk, stories and maybe a DVD (Claire anyway) their hair isnt too wet.

I am considering starting a Saturday morning hairwashing routine though as I do worry now that its winter that going to bed with damp hair cant be good for them (although I do it all the time!)

Exactly what She-Ra said. Her hair is practically dry by the time she has got dressed, had her story and her milk anyway.

I wash Evie's hair before bed and she lets me semi-dry it with the hairdryer so it's not dripping wet, but she does often go to bed with damp hair .

Hers is nowhere near as long as Lucy's though, and she doesn't like it being brushed, tied up or clipped back, so she usually goes about looking like a scarecrow .

I would LOVE to plait it, put it in a ponytail etc, but she just refuses pointblank, and will take out any slides I do manage to attach to her head .

She gets it trimmed every eight weeks when I get mine done, btw, my hairdresser recommended that for keeping the ends neat and making it look fuller (her hair is very fine, like mine).

Laura's hair is very very long, all the way down her back, the curls spring it up a bit though. She has loads of it - she has fine-ish hair but lots of it - which I think is what I have too. Lately since we've been getting the house done we've had no heating () although we have had water! So we've HAD to hairdry her hair before bed (she's going to bed with lots of blankets- well she was, we have heating now). It seemed wrong to put her with wet hair in bed with no heating on.

She seems to like it though, but what bouffant hair she has when it's done :laff:

DH has got a thing about me letting her go to bed with damp hair so i do use the hairdryer on it but only on a cool setting and its always still damp anyhoo but it seems to please my Dh

She's having it all chopped off today though, if she'll sit still :fingerscrossed:

eta - just seen yours about sore neck - ahhh oreilly i feel all guilty now. I hope she doesnt get a sore neck

it might just have been me, my hair is very thick, I would wake up in the morning and it would still be damp in the middle

I think if its very fine hair that doesn't hold much water it would be fine

Thanks for the advice. Actually I go to bed with wet hair all the time too

I can't have it cut, I just can't - all the curls are at the ends, and I do fear it will go like rats tails if she looses the curls - the curls help to keep it neat!

I never though about doing it in the morning...

We just towel dry it and that seems to do a good enough job.

ETA Isabel has had 8 haircuts! She has to or it looks awful IMO. She had her first haircut at 6 months but she did have a mullet then :teehee: but if I don't get it cut it grows at different rates and just looks like a mess.

I'm having Lucy's cut because the curls (well slight waves) are making it look scruffy/fuzzy. She had about 2 inches off it in May and it really thickened the back up but the sides are still like fluffy baby hair and it doesn't matter what i do with it it sticks up like a fecking scarecrow, she ALWAYS looks like she's slept on her hair

I'm hoping to have it cut into a nice bob which should hopefully take away the last of the waves so it falls a lot nicer, in reality she'll end up with a bowl cut and the curls will spring back into life no doubt and she'll look a right numpty for weeks

If your little girl has curls they do definetly come back after a cut. I get livvys hair trimmed all the time just to keep it neat and her curls always come back.

Why would you get a sore neck from having wet hair in bed??

popinjay1

This is why I am avoiding getting Amys hair cut at the moment. I just worry she will lose all the lovely little curls she has at the ends. She does need a trim though as it is very uneven and messy really.

ETA: Hope they do stay then.

Well maybe Lucy's is, but Isabel's curls come back every time!

Laura didn't even need a fringe-trim until she was nearly 2.5, she was such a baldy-baby, but she's had her a full head cut about 3 times now, needs another one tbh. Her hair is wavy so doesn't actually look that long as it bounces up, but it's SO much better for the hair to have the ends trimmed regularly  In my experience that really fine 'baby' hair just ends up all tatty and dead-endy  , Laura's certainly looks much better for a trim (and we're talking only taking the ends off, although if there's a noticeable difference between baby hair and newer hair then I'd probably get it all taken off, I've seen girls with really obvious baby hair still on the ends and it just looks really messy to me  ).

If their hair is going to be curly/wavy, then those come back. If it's not then they won't, but ATEOTD they can't still have those curls clinging on when they're 20 or whatever!! I had Adam's hair cut recently (he's always had loads), and he had loads of curls and I thought they'd ping back after it was cut but no such luck -still a long way from straight though!

ETA I didn't help at all re. the wet hair thing! Laura's is pretty much dry by the time she goes to bed tbh, but then it's not 'long' as yet. I have VERY thick hair and always go to bed with it wet, sometimes it's still damp in the morning, but it's never been a problem.

Lottie has her hair washed every 4 days or so and we have to dry it with a hairdryer, it's so thick it would take ages to dry. I just use the cool setting and never do it completely bone dry, just so that it isn't damp anymore.

Oh, and we've just had Lotties hair cut - she had a good 1.5 inches off the back and the curls are still there!

My 2 have their hair washed twice a week during bedtime bath and I always blow dry it before they go to bed.

Their hair is pretty fine so a blast with the hair dryer on cool setting usually dries it enough after a couple of minutes.

Grace has just had her first cut - took 2 hours to do! Fortunately my Mum's friend is a hair dresser so we took her to her house and with the help of Cbeebies and chocolate the hairdresser just cut bits off every now and then when we could get her to sit still enough

Ellie's hair is awful though, it's very fine and as soon as it gets about chin length it ends up all straggly and looks horrible. She's got a chin length bob at the moment, we're hoping that over time it will thicken as she's desperate for lovely long hair

DD has always had her hair trimmed, it makes it look much neater and thicker. It sticks out everywhere if its not been trimmed. Its dried before she goes to bed otherwise its all over the plac ein the morning.

She didn't have much hair for the first 18mths though.

Lois hasn't had her hair cut yet (she's 19 months). She has a bath in the mornings so going to bed with wet hair isn't an issue, but I have started blow drying it now it's getting colder anyway. I just have it on the lowest speed and heat setting, she seems to enjoy watching in the mirror.

I cut both the girls' hair - both of them grew hair really slowly, but as a result, the "baby hair" at the ends was really ratty and in terrible condition and kept knotting. I can't imagine inflicting either of them on a hairdressers so I had to do it myself. I just cut all the ratty layers out into a bob, and then let it grow from there - though DD2 still has so little hair that it's more like a short mullet atm.

Re: washing - they both go to bed with damp hair. It's about the only way with DD1 but when DD2's gets a bit longer I'll probably mostly-dry it with a cool hairdryer first.

Amber has never had her hair cut once and she's nearly 5!!She had short straight hair with just a bit of curl at the back until she was about 2 then she went through a phase where she wouldnt have it washed or even let it get wet.Actually she hated the bath/water full stop so it didnt get done for ages -about 2 months  anyway when I finally insisted on washing it it went curly as anything and is now long gorgeous curls .Its the total opossite of what it was before and I'm wondering if Rubys will go the same as hers is very similar .
I scrunch dry Ambers hair till its just about dry ,I wont use the hairdryer as she hates the noise of it plus it will ruin her curls by drying them out.

Ruby has to have her fringe cut every two weeks :faint: DP usually does it but lately she wont keep still and tries to move her head to watch him so it went a bit wonky last time

We've never cut Elena's hair - lol can you tell
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v241/xxxsarahxxx/Favouriteswk4070.jpg

Elena usually has a bath in the morning when I shower or as soon as we get in from work at 6.30pm (ish) so it has plenty of time to dry before she goes to bed. It dries pretty quickly, though, so I don't think it would bother me if she went to bed with slightly damp hair.

Oh and by the way, the curls come back

Lucy's never, it goes quite wavy now but nowhere near like the ringlets she used to have  it was cute for a bit but it looks much neater now its mostly straight  tbh Lucy's hair was never THAT curly it always grew straight from the roots and was then curly on the ends. When i had it cut the curls we're mostly gone and its only really the side bits (that were too short when she had the back cut) that are wavy (well fizzy!) and this is what looks such a mess.

Oh and she didn't get to have it cut today because she wasn't interested  so she'll look like a complete fraggle for this party we've got on Saturday
