I've started getting UTI's since Feburary...previously, never had them in my life It's a major problem because it affects my epilepsy. I get vague, confused and have seziures. I had that on Monday. Tonight, I am pissing razor blades. Did a urine test at work, one of the stick ones and it lights up like a christmas tree.

I'm damn sure I have another UTI. My pee hole is on fire, I'm struggling to sit..dribbling constantly..sorry TMI there.

I'm seeing a urologist in 3 weeks but was wondering girls, any tips on prevention.

I know that acidic urine prevents them. Thats my big problem. My pee is the complete opposite due to a drug I take for epilepsy...so was wondering if anyone knew of anything else. Have scoured the net and so far it says

wash your fanny..yes, well, I do that
make your urine more acidic by taking cranberry capsules, vitamin C ect...all I think is "shit, more pills"
drink heaps of water..yup do that too otherwise get kidney stones from epilepsy pill.

is there anything else people have tried that helps. I really don't want to be on antibiotics every few months and the thought of more pills, even just cranberry and vit c is depressing me.

The pill that causes the wee to be more prone to "supporting" bug growth was increased in Feb. I won't contemplate changing epielspy pills, I can't go through it again...plus they work the best I have even had.

So, just anymore prevention tips if you knwo would really help.

Thanks,
iGnome in distress.

Would second the cranberry juice, really easy to get hold of. Plus I find that your body has more chance of fighting it if you kill off the germs nearest the outside iyswim. Both for this and immediate relief from pain, try sitting in a bath of salt water. Has to be VERY salty - handfuls of the stuff in as little water as you can get away with (4 inches or something) so get the cheap cooking salt from the supermarket. You want to keep adding salt till it stops dissolving when you stir it around.

You will have a very salty tiddy afterwards so if you're hoping for oral, warn your victim first.

Cranberry juice :thumb:

You need to make your wee more alkaline NOT acid. Baking soda mixed with water will do it but be warned it tastes VILE -but does give immediate relief.

Poor you, it's horrid!

Minky, this is what I thought and was taught (being a nurse), but other sites I have read said bugs won't grow in acid so you need to make your pee more acid....but those drinks like Ural (not sure what the UK brand is) are urinary alkalizers and whats strange about it, we give them to patients at work who have UTI's (so I stole some last night  )

The tablet I take for epilepsy, it also makes your pee alkaline thats why I can't understand whats going wrong. I guess I'll stick with the drinks thing unitl I see the urologist.

Could barely sleep last night, had shooting pains right up the old pee hole. :hissyfit: I've had 4 hours sleep, just got up because I'm in a bit of pain still. Decided to do some cleaning and washing and net surfing to take my mind off it. Need sleep soon, start work at 2pm, it's 7am now.

Poor thing...

I've been having UTI's/kidney infections since January (had frequent cytitis since I was 14) I had a camera in my bladder 4 weeks ago where it shows that my bladder is healthy, but it means it's a problem with my kidneys, so i'm now waiting for a CT scan, even though an x-ray and an ultrasound havn't shown up anything.

My GP has prescibed dispersable Voltorol (diclofenac) for any pain, and advised drinking the cranberry juice until it's sorted.
