all was well

apart from the fact that (TBH I knew this anyway) the baby is huge and I am measuring very big for dates :faint:

I have to go back in 3 weeks then its growth scans and checks for gestational diabetes etc

the MW said that given the size of the baby and my history (the fact that c was big for dates, though not as big as this, and early) that 40 weeks is looking pretty unlikely and we need to get prepared to not go term.

I am feeling a bit :cry:TBH, I knew in my heart this was happening but its worse having it confirmed

rarr why can't I grow normal sized children at a normal rate instead of elephants

How big sweetie? (sorry, i mean how big were your previous children?)

My two were big big bubbas - but they would not ever entertain the thought of inducing me earlier??? Much to my :hissyfit:

At 36 wks L's leg was measuring that of a 41 wk baby. And she was 8lb 1oz at 38 wks. She was born 3 wks later (10 days over due FFS :hissyfit:) and was 9lb 10oz.

Dont be sad :flowers: xxxxxxx

caroline was 6lbs (sounds dinky, but this was at 34 weeks exactly, they reckon had I gone to 40 weeks she would easily have been 10lbs plus).

she measured my bump today at 27.5 cm (25 weeks gestation). Actually I measured it last night, my waist is now 42.5 inches, the biggest I got with c was 44 inches at 32 weeks.

Bump measuring is notoriously inexact. And even then you're only 2.5 weeks 'bigger' than you should be. I'd wait and see what the growth scans tell you (if you need them at all).

I was told just before I had DD that she was quite small - around 6lb they reckoned. 2-3 days later she was born weighing 7lb13oz

Really, really try not to jump to conclusions

William was a big baby (born 10lb 4oz at 38 weeks), and everyone assumed my second would be as big, if not bigger.

At 23 weeks, I was measuring 27cm, and have continued to measure big. Of course, we all thought I was on for another big bubba.

The baby is seeming to be of a normal size this time though, and the fluid levels are normal, according to regular growth scans. For some reason, my bump is measuring big but it can't be explained.

Measuring the bump isn't a precise science :happyno:

Glad that all was well and it's good they are keeping an extra eye on the size.

I would say that generally you are bigger with second pregnancies- as all your muscles have gone to shot. I know I was much bigger with my second.

:higgies: Hope the growth scans can give give you some reassurance... did she give you any idea on how early this onew might be and mention steroid shots or anything once you get to a certain point, or just see how it goes and see what needs to be done? :higgies:

not yet, I have to go back at 28 weeks for another check up, then if the baby still seems to be measuring big, they will check for diabetes, and take it from there. I knew it was big anyway, it was massive at the 20 week scan and it feels like a big baby.

its not the size on its own thats the issue, its the combination of the size plus my medical history. On the plus side, if it is going to come early, being bigger is a good thing.

we got off lightly in that dept, only 2 days, and she was the biggest one there  but she was mature for gestation and never needed any assistance with anything, wasn't even tube fed.

They could never find any reason why she came early, she just did, but what the MW suggested today, given that this one seems to be growing very fast, is that I may just have a pressure cooker for a uterus and can do a baby in less than 40 weeks

Me too. Thomas was 10lb 12oz. They knew I wouldn't go into labour naturally (polyhydramnios) and scared me witless about cord prolapse, so why they waited until 40+11 to induce me I will never know.

This time I am kicking ass.

Glad everything is well but sorry to hear you're destined for another "giant" baby :higgies: and possibly that you won't make it to term again.

FWIW i measured 2 wks + ahead for my dates from about 26 wks, and they kept banging on about doing growth scans etc etc but they never bothered  they kept telling me how i'd have a giant baby and that because i'm only 5ft and my baby looked like it was going to be weighing in at around 8.5lb i'd never have a natural delivery

As it happens i WOULD have been 2 wks ahead for my dates because the sonographer changed my due date from my LMP by 2 wks by my 12 wk scan  so as far as i was concerned i was bang on for my dates, although i WAS very concerned about the baby's size.

As it turned out Lucy was born at term + 1 (well if i go by my own dute date from my LMP she was 13 days late and weighed in at a whopping 6lb 3oz so they had worried me silly for nothing

Am sure whatever happens hun, everything will be fine

And they told my friend she would have 7lb-er and her wee one was 9lb 10.

It's all finger in the wind really.

Please don't worry too much - measuring is sooooo inaccurate it's untrue, and 2cms is not massively over.

I'm sure they're just being extra careful bcause of last time.

I measure huge with dd, growth scans put her at just above average size wise and she was born at 41+3 weighing just under 9 pounds, so big but not huge. When I went into the labour ward the obstetrician looked at my notes and very calmly asked if I'd had any scans recently, I replied oh yes and its OK the baby is a normal size, to which he said thank heavens I thought we were looking at a 6 kg (13lb+) baby!!!!!!!
