I am sitting here totally  as to how offices can work like this.
6 weeks ago I phoned the local council asking if we were allowed to remove some trees. They called back and said there was a planning condition against our property so we needed to write to the Tree Dept detailing our plans and a tree officer would visit. We did and the tree officer came out, said they had no problems and a few weeks ago wrote saying "I confirm that the Planning Authority has no objections to the removal of .... trees ... from ...".
This morning we had a letter referring to the call made 6 weeks ago, telling us that there was planning condition and that we needed to write to 'Planning Support Services' to obtain the required consent. After a quick panic (we've already booked the tree surgeon) I found the first letter and it looked fine but I thought I'd better phone the person who wrote the 2nd letter so they could update their records.
He said that I needed to ask the person who wrote the letter of consent as he is the one who makes the decisions  I read parts of the consent letter and asked if there was any reason why we might need further permissions and he kept on saying that I should ask the tree officer again (despite him already confirming we had permission)!
