I'm trying to muster up the energy to go out and water the garden - FIL has given us about a dozen trays of bedding plants so I really should go out and water it all to keep them alive! Do you water every night if there's been no rain? (and you don't have a hosepipe ban in place!)

My Dad does our garden, not that we ask him or anything.
He comes down and mows the lawn and has planted bedding plants in troughs he has made and has given us four hanging baskets too. We are told to water them every night even though it rains.
So I feel obliged as he has taken the trouble to make something of our garden and made up the baskets and troughs.
He is a very proud man too.

I only really water the new tree we have planted, and pots and hanging baskets. We have a hosepipe ban. I don't water my pots or hanging baskets anywhere near as much as other people do (my dad keeps telling me you have to water hanging baskets twice a day), and they look fine, and nothing has died! And if it rains, I don't water!
I've not really bothered this year. If I've got hanging baskets then they need doing every day, regardless, otherwise they do just die, but otherwise most things can be left to their own devices to some degree. As we're in the process of selling/buying our current house/new house I haven't bothered with baskets or pots this year, and so all I've done is a couple of times I've watered my existing pots, and given one patch of lawn a good soaking (next door have a fir tree that sucks all the moisture out from under one area of lawn!) but that's it. Here in the midlands we've had quite a good mix of sun and rain, so at the moment there's no real need to get watering too often/too much really as it's still all looking nice and green.

I've not watered mine tonight  had my shower and put my nightie on before I remembered. I've got 2 hanging baskets (well, the kind that hangs flat against the fence so i'll really need to water those 1st thing in the morning, i've not have much success with these baskets the last couple of years as I keep forgetting to water them.
