My sister gets married in one year and I'm to be chief bridesmaid.
I have to lose between 50 and 70lbs.
I do not want to be the fattest bm on the block.
This starts today.
(again)
All help and support gratefully accepted.

It's a realistic target - at just under a lb a week (for 50lbs) - I think you can do it. You've shown determination in reaching your other goals this year so I don't see why this should be any different (though I know you are just like me and eat for comfort some of the time! )
Good luck hon. I'll be looking to you and Cherrypie for hints and tips in a few months time!!

I've no idea about diets or nutrition but you seem a very focused person Lola and i'm sure you can do this.
Wishing you the best of luck! I'm sure you'll be the bestest BM on the block!

Thanks Lois and Spacepants.
Damn right I need to find exercise I like again. My prob is my back is so bad now it doesn't tolerate much. Last year I swam 5 times a week and the weight fell off then Dh started working nights again and it was a no go-er.
I'm *thinking* of going back to dance class as I loved it passionately- and I was damned good too. I'm just worried about my initial fitness levels.
WW should work for me, but I'm just hungry all the time which I'm putting down to eating badly so that I never feel full. I just got into a habit of convenience foods again which are a killer on a diet- they also seriously impact my mood so I know if I'm to feel better mentally, I need to feel better physically.

DO IT DO IT DO IT!!!!!!!!!!! When I started tap dancing, apart from a brief stint of swimming (around the same time as you but nowhere near the same dedication!) I hadn't exercised properly for 2 years!!! It WAS hard work but I loved it SO much that it got easier very quickly. Oddly when we missed a week or it was the school break I really noticed the difference in my weight and health.
The other bonus is that it's much needed YOU time - something as mummies and employees we get precious little of. For that one hour you are LOLA DANE, not Lola Dane, reporter, or Lola Dane, Mammy. I found that I thought of nothing else but the dance steps and boy is that the best therapy ever!
I intend on going back to tap dancing as soon as I am allowed.

Good luck Lola!
My tip would be that if you are doing WW, and realistically as you work full time and have loads on, then find the convenience foods which are low in points, rather than try to give them up which might be hard to maintain.
I bought the shopping guide and just used that. I used to write on packets/jars/ready meals the amount of points in them as I put them away. That way you can make the right choice even if you are in a rush.
The dance classes sound great too.

With healthy eating and excersise, you'll do it no probs
Good luck Lola ! You have a goal to work for which makes it easier.
Spacedust has put it so well, I'm not going bother saying anything else :laff:

First of all - good luck!
Secondly - you can do it! As Lois says, it's a realisitic sensible goal at about 1lb a week, so very achievable. Like me, you have an excellent incentive, which I'm finding is making ALL the difference. Every time I think of putting a naughty morsel in my mouth, I just think of our visa and it stops me!
I'm following a plan from http://www.edietsuk.co.uk/index.cfm which were recommended to me by skibunny. There are lots of different plans to choose from (I'm doing GI). You put your weight and height in, it advises you on suitable calorie intake, what weight you should be. It even devises a weekly diet plan according to you preferences (e.g. DH is following the plan with me and he doesn't like fish much, so we don't have any fish recipes). You're also provided with recipes, and a weekly shopping list.
You said you find hunger a problem - I can honestly say with this diet I'm not having huge hunger pangs that I sometimes do with some diets. So might be worth a shot? It works out about £3 a week.

Just wanted to wish you all the best of luck. The road ahead will be tough and I am sure you will face some brick walls but think of the end result(even though I don't know how you can be any more gorgeous!)

Thanks girls!
I'm eating porridge for breakfast this morning, on the understanding it will boost my energy and fill me up. (Yes, I added a touch of jam to it...but it can't be that bad).
I'll check out ediets. GI sounds great to me (and I dont like fish either!)

Not having read every single reply, I'll say my bit.
I'll throughly reccomend joining weight watchers, a friend of mine lost 4 stone in less than 1 year.
I have now lost 1st and 3-4 lb not sure on the lb as it's weigh in day tomorrow) and that has been in 5 weeks.
I don't know of anyone who's joined WW and NOT loast weight, and even if you don't loose one week, they'l help you work out why that could be etc.
I feel it's great motivation.
And once the weight comes off, the gym becomes more attractive IYKWIM:grin:

Miss Sweetcheeks, my sister (the bride) is on WW and has lost 8lbs in a month. WW has worked for me in the past, I suppose I should try it again.

I started WW on 10th Jan. So far, I've lost 38 pounds (and we are not half way thru the year yet) ...with many more to go but honestly, with my hand on my heart, it hasn't been a struggle at all. So, I know you can do it.

Lola I am another one to big up WW. I joined in January 2005 and lost 28lbs in 16 weeks. I was determined and I followed the plan easily. I also got to have the odd treat and still manage to lose weight.
Remember the slower it comes off you are more than likely to keep it off.
I have been on maintenance for a year now and I manage to stay within 3lbs of my goal weight.
