Calgon = Soda crystals

I heard some ladies talking in the pharmacy about using soda crystals in their wash, as its the same as Calgon, but loads cheaper, and what they used to do in the good ol' days!

Is this fact?

sorry for jumping in on this thread but i wondered about calgon and people with very sensative skin, how does it effect people? and from the point of view would the soda crystals be better for people aswell as the machine :puzzled:

:wave: the dj's girl... my son has excema and I use Calgon and it doesnt seem to aggrevate his skin at all

CH - if you think how limescaley your kettle gets - think of that on a large scale and that could be your washing machine :yuck: we live in a particularly hard water area so deffo need to use something

God yes i so knowwhere your comming from. I was meant to have got some when we got this washing machine over a year ago but never bothered. I will get some but would be intrested in the soda crystals as you say its cheaper & dont you use this calgon every time you do a wash??

CH - yes I use it every wash. I do buy in big boxes in Macro so its not as expensive, but in the long run, hopefully cheaper than buying a new machine :fingerscrossed:

means they're totally different ingredients so totally different products (think the difference between chocoate cake & lemon cake!!)

thank you i get bad eczema and its playing up at the mo, but the washing machine is going to washing machine heaven very soon and i am sorting out a replacement and dont want the same thing to happen again. thanks again :flowers:

just ot warn you if your machine is more than a couple of yrs old and never been cleaned before

we did the soda followed by white vinegar and our machine suddenely stunk of mildew

we had to do the whole thing again followed bya wash with just vanish tabs (we had bubbles pouring out the machine as i forgot to add a towel) and then the soda and white vinegar again after that before it finally smelt fresh again!

do the soda crystals on one wash, then just white vinegar, then an empty wash i think thats what we did? or maybe the empty wash was before the vinegar?
