Are toddler beds a waste of money? If you've used one, up until what age did it last?
A's room is quite tiny, so I'd prefer a toddler bed - & bambino could used it in a couple of years if nec.
A is 2.5 so if I got 2-3 yrs out of it I guess that'd be ok. Or is it just a total waste? (I wouldn't spend more than £100 on it).

We went straight for a single bed- I think I would do that again TBH. She looked lost at first but fills it now. I think ikea do reasonably priced toddler beds.

As Elise has a cot bed, the decision is already made for us, but if she didn't I'd definitely go with a single, you'll get so much more use out of it

I was wondering this too as after Christmas I will want to get Isabel a bed and I don't want to waste money getting a toddler bed if she could just go in a single.

we bought a sweet little toddler bed on ebay for £10 (bought a new matress for it), in the end we will get probably 3-4 years use out of it. I like it because it leaves a lot more floor space in her room and when we are finished with it, we will ebay it again. I specifically wanted one with a good sturdy rail inbuilt, and i found that hard to find in a sigle bed. she's quite tall for her age (3) but fits in very well still.
on the other hand we put DS straight into a single bed when he was two. Its a raised bed (about chest height, the one in ikea with a slide) and it has a built in sturdy rail all the way round so he has never had a chance to fall out.. he still loves it at 5.

I'm planning on getting one of the Ikea ones that extend as your child grows. Emma's room is tiny so we need as much space as possible

My friend got the Ikea one that grows with your child. It's called Vikare and it's got a head board, foot board and side bar. It's meant to last them till they're 15, apparently!

If Lucy hadn't of had a cotbed i'd have just gone straight for a single. IMO "toddler" beds ARE a waste of money and cotbeds are a GOOD Investment. Lucy has been in hers as a cot since she was 8 months, and if we hadn't of been given a crib as a present she'd have been in it from birth, and she's still in it now having changed it to a bed when she was about 20 months.
When we eventually get our house done she'll have a new single bed and hopefully :fingerscrossed: the cotbed will be used elsewhere (god willing!)

Although we bought a cot bed for Blair, I was pregnant with Robbie by the time he needed a bed so we bought a single bed and he has only ever fallen out of it once

We have a cotbed, but if not, I would have definitely gone for a single bed.

we just got this for Emma, which was similar in price to the toddler beds but it much longer/wider. it's great :thumb: nice & low to the floor - I stupidly didn't read it properly and thought it came with the bed guard (which it doesn't) I think it was about £110 for the bed & mattress inc. delivery and its lovely. and single bedding you get more choice than toddler bedding too

Which is pretty much perfect!! Ohhh I'm quite excited now!!
Thanks all - sounds like a single bed in the consensus. The 'growing' Ikea one sounds great but our local store doesn't open til Jan - too late!!

We have looked at these, but how many mattresses would you need to buy over the years though?

 Sersha I'm worried that I might feel like that!! Think I'm getting carried away at the thought of cute duvet covers etc  but she is almost the length of her cot & I can't lift her in and out anymore!!

We put our oldest in a twin bed with a side rail when she was 17 months and she adjusted great. We used a toddler bed when my second was 18 months, but only because someone gave us a used one. I really liked the toddler bed, but if I was buying something new I would probably just go for a twin bed. HTH!

Wow your children are beautiful Goobah!!
We went for a toddler bed in the hope it would last a few years until she's big enough to go into one of those midi-sleeper things.
Her room is tiny and not big enough for a full on single bed

e has just gone into one of those mid height slide beds and its fab, its a shorty bed so about 5 inches shorter than a single, i can store her toys under it so i've lost no floorspace. plus she just loves the slide! lengthwise she'll fit in it for years.!
