Maisie has been in a fair bit of pain with her teeth and I have been trying to get Medised into her. I have tried syringing it in and spooning it in, but either way she spits it back out. Should I put it in milk in a bottle?

with Jack a syringe and spoon doesnt work properly i have to spoon it in, squeeze his cheeks together (just abit) and keep the spoon in his mouth abit so he cant use his tounge or mouth to spit it out..........eventualy he swallows it, i know it sounds bad but its the only way i can get it into him

Ditto with Elise, but she loves medicine, so her mouth is open even before I get to her

i have to give Thomas stuff for reflux by syringe - he was terrible taking it for the first few days but now he is getting used to - maybe Maisie will get better at taking with the syringe. I do it very slowly in case of choking.

Up until quite recently it was a real PITA to get any sort of medicine into Lu :( I used to dread doing it but it was the only way i could guarantee she had had the right amount and that it would work.

I had to lay her flat on the floor, straddle her sometimes using me knees to restrain her arms  (believe me this was necessary) and then push her cheeks together and syringe it in, drop by drop, trying not to let her spit it back up again :(

It was a horrible ordeal everytime but everything else i tried resulted in her spitting it back up which was obviously no good to her if she was in pain.

She has though recently starting accepting without whinging about it or trying to struggle away calpol or nurofen from a syringe. I'm sure she'd probably take it from a spoon now.

Medised i put in her milk unless its given in the middle of the day when she doesn't drink any.

With the last cold we put it in his pudding. The Hipp Apple and Blueberry one was particularly good for hiding Calpol.

Not ideal but he had discovered how to 'raspberry' it all out otherwise.

I have a mental image of this now Mrs D, you do make me :laff: :laff: :laff:

Eliza used to be a nightmare, we syringed it in but she spat it out, held her down a la Mrs D above but the screams were not worth it, put it in her bottle but she would refuse her milk......

Now?? My Calpol addicted daughter only has to heard the word and her tongue is hanging out and she is more than willing to take a spoonful

Del is a right one. She will scream blue murder till she gets a taste of what it it. If it's Medised she stops and takes it no fuss but if it's just Calpol she keeps crying. I think she has a habit :laff:

I always felt so bad doing it to her, and i ONLY give her medicine if i think she REALLY needs it as i hated having to pin her down like that. BUT IMO there was no point me just trying to see if she'd take it, her then spitting it out and then having to wait X amount of hours before i could give her any more because i wasn't sure how much of it she had actually swallowed.

I can't tell you how relieved i am that she will actually happily take it now!! :ellie:

I too have a daughter who loves the taste of both medised/calpol. She even asks for it at bedtime if she has had some recently.
