View Full Version : Next time I say I'mm off to Zara
Will someone please stop me?

I go in there, fall in love with all their stuff, try it on, and find that nothing fits me, doesn't matter what size I try, it's wrong. Some mediums are too big, some larges are too small and today an XL was the right size   .
It's just an excercise in frustration!
Spanish women clearly aren't 169cm tall and curvy like me.
they are all shaped like Cathyw and Katkinn - tall and slim .
Sigh. Why do I do it?
Though I did get a skirt today that miraculously fitted me but I'm not sure if it will work with the tops I have to go with it. :puzzled: :puzzled: :puzzled: :puzzled:

Fashion desert - lol!
Did you see the red shoes you were after Minky?
Ok, so maybe not in the same league as Zara but I've found this with H&M recently and it's REALLY annoying :hissyfit:

lol - I am 160cm, so you are SO much taller than me!!
I find their trousers laughable though - I always have to have about two foot lopped off the bottom. Did you not manage to find the red shoes?

I've never bought anything for myself from Zara (just seem to buy for the kids from there!) but I tried on a cardi last time I was in and the large fitted me best so I thought 'no feckin' way, ain't buying a large!' and put it back  Glad to hear their sizing is a bit weird

I find this too, and I am 5ft 2 ins (no idea what that is in cms!) and a 10/12 (10 in the expensive shops!!). Trousers are laughable, yards would have to be chopped off, which would change the shape IYSWIM. Tops, mostly I'm a large or extra large in there.
I heard they were altering their fit for the UK, because we have wider ribcages and are generally curvier (even me, and I am not what you would call voluptuous!). Obviously they haven't. The Zara in Bromley has the most unfriendly staff I have ever come across, and all their customers are about 16 (probably cos they're the only ones that fit into the clothes?). I avoid it. Even when the stuff in the window looks lovely.

It's hilarious - fancy myself quite tall (5 9ish) but the zara jeans are always waaaaay too long on me and THEY ONLY DO THEM IN ONE SIZE :brainache:

It does my head in so much!!!
Spanish sizes tend to be generally speaking, smaller and once you are over a 14 ish things can get a bit tricky . However, what i think it's totally ridiculous of Zara is making clothes cut only for very tall women!. Most Spanish woman aren't exactly tall, I'd say that 5.2 to 5.5 is sort of average so I really don't get it. When I buy trousers I need to cut off 2 inches, but I find this with other Spanish shops too (like www.trucco.es). They probably think that catering fot different heights is just too much trouble  . I had a friend in Uni that could only buy trousers in zara in children's sizes  and she was just slim and petite!
Problem is, you can cut trousers off a couple of inches and most of ther time they will look ok (unless they are flared, then it looks silly because you lose the proportions). But they cut their shirts for *long* women too!!! You can't just cut a chunk of shirt
I wish i had a Zara body, but as m uch as i like their clothes, for me it's always hit and miss and quite depressing actually!

oooh all the more for me then!!!
Sorry chicken I know how frustrating it can be.
BUT I have to say that I hope they NEVER EVER EVER change as for the past x years (actually as long as I can remember - I used to go over to Belgium and Spain to buy it before they opened Zara over here donkeys ago) about 95% of my wardrobe is from Zara (with a couple of pieces from Mango thrown in - don't ever go in there if you don't like Zara, whilst things are as long they're actually sized smaller - as a size 8 to 10 sometimes a large would be too small on me  )
It's the only shop in the world I can just go and pick things up from the rail, not try them on, go and buy them and guarantee that they'll fit (espeically trousers  )
But their shoes are bollocks - they absolutely crucify your feet and are SO expensive in the UK.
God I can't WAIT till Autumn/Winter when I can go and buy normal clothes again.
(although about half my maternity stuff is actually from Zara and Mango - just their stretchy stuff!!!)

ps if it's any consolation there are loads of shops that design clothes for curvier people that I literally can't wear at all - Hobbs and Jigsaw for example

I also think the sizing in Zara is totally random, I have things in sizes 10-14, once a jacket in large was too small (I am generally a size 12). The trousers are very long but I can just about wear them if I have heels on (and I'm only 5' 6" but my legs seem to be longish).
I could never buy anything without trying on, but I have found them good with returns. It's not a shop I can guarantee to buy from, whereas somewhere like Oasis or Gap always has stuff for me.

this is one of the reasons I steer so clear of shops like this (although I didn't know Zara was one of them - we don't have one of those here). When you're a size 12-14 (which I am and you are from what you said in another thread) and you have to buy a "large"? Downright upsetting to us, and downright bloody offensive to ladies who really ARE large - what does that make THEM? I really hate this!
Ach well at least you didn't spend a packet.
