View Full Version : Okay, dummies - is there one that 'stays in' best?

especially at night?

Nate has liked having a dummy from the off (Kaede never did and never had one), he's just always been a 'sucky' baby. He's also a very happy baby so the 'sucky' episodes are not all the time, but 'sometimes', as inbetween feeds and everything else he's quite content.

However, because of what I think is teething at the moment (eating his fists and everything else he can lay his hands on) he's back to being really 'sucky' again and 'particulary so' at nightime.

We got circa. no sleep last night from him after his midnight feed  he winded fine, went back to sleep in my arms as normal but when you lay him back down this 'sucking sound and motion' starts coming form his lips non-stop, almost like he is sucking a dummy that is NOT there :happyno:

If you then give him a dummy he sucks happily on it, but then it falls out and THEN you get the upset :brainache:

Is there a dummy that 'stays in' better when they're sleeping. He's mastered it 'quite' well during the day when he needs it can keep it in his mouth relatively well, but at night when he's asleep not so well.

Do not want to do what I heard my friends mum did when he was little which was tape the pacifier to him

Ideas anyone?????

 Taz my fellow march mummy.
Glad that Nate is happy and doing well.
Re the dummies both my dd1 and dd2 had a dummy (in fact Layla dd2 still does  )
I liked mam newborn ones the best when they were tiny (the sillicone orthodontic ones) and they seem to stay in quite well too.
Bizarrely Eleanor DOES NOT have a dummy! She just will not take one which i am quite pleased about really as it means i wont have to wrestle it off her when she's older as i'm having to do now with Layla :teehee:

Hmmm, I think we've only ever used Mam dummies, and they've always been great, although, at Nate's age, the 'cherry' style might stay in better?

I'd second a cherry one although even then they fall out when they fall asleep.

Janae has always hated the cherry shape ones, and prefers the flatter shape.

H. has an avent orthodontic one, but i know i read in the GF book that the cherry teat stays in better?

Btw, H. also continuously does the suck suck suck motion of the dummy/bottle being in her mouth even when it's not :loco:

Totally OT, but everytime I read this thread title I think you're being rude to us all...

Okay dummies! :teehee:

As you were

My sister threads a muslim through the handle of the dummy and it seems to keep it in her baby's mouth, plus he uses the muslim as a comfort blanket:thumb:
It didn't work for Poppy though:no:

Ryan had Mothercare's own brand dummies with the shaped orthodontic silicone teat - not sure what the minimum recommended age is for them but he wouldn't use anything else. They are nice and soft too on their face, but an absolute pita if you lose them and live half an hour away from the nearest Mothercare as we do

There's a MAM Diamond one (or something) that's textured, for 4 months plus. My son had them from about 3 months. They're massive and they don't have a handle so they can't pull them out. I think the texture might help too.

I used to wedge his taggie and a dou-dou thing between his arms and his face too, to stop him flailing around.
