I had my private scan on Tuesday evening and everything is great. Sonographer was really reassuring and said baby's heartbeat was nice and strong. Got 2 pictures and he did a report to give to my midwife.
I have just had my booking-in appt with the Community Midwife and gave her the report. She said that if my local hospital catches wind of this I may not get my routine 12 week scan   . My GP has already written requesting this so fingers crossed I am already in the system.
I am just so annoyed; I pay my taxes and NI like a good girl  DH said if this is the case then we will pay again for a 12 week scan but why should we keep forking out?
Oh and my midwife tried talking me into a home birth :bwahaha: :bwahaha:

I had a similar issue a few years back with a smear test. I had a routine medical with Bupa at work which included a smear. Then I got called in to see my GP for an NHS one and when I said I'd had one privately 2 years previously they tried to stop me having one on the NHS because they only allow a 3 year gap between smears.
I stood my ground and they let me have one on the NHS. I think in future I will just keep my mouth shut about things I've had done privately otherwise they just try and screw you over. As you say, you pay tax and NI so why shouldn't you get the same treatment as everyone else. If the NHS provided reassurance scans then you wouldn't have had to pay out for the private one.

Well, we had a private 12 week scan (as the scans here are at 16wks only) and we even took the report into our 16 wk scan - as it happened, it was the same sonographer!! - nothing was mentioned. Though that was 18mths ago :yeahright: ATEOTD, it's totally down to you to have as many scans as you like, everyone is entitled to the same NHS treatment as the next person.
Hopefully though, as it's already been requested, it'll be fine! :fingerscrossed:

I think they would say that the only reason they scan you at 12 weeks is to make sure the pregnancy is viable, to date you and to check that there is only one baby in there so they would say that now those things have been done there is no need to repeat them and they would like to try and keep down the number of times the baby is scanned.
To be honest I can see their reasoning BUT I know how personal it is when it is YOUR baby we are talking about!
I had an emergency scan at 11 weeks with Alex due to bleeding and they told me there and then that I wouldn't get my next scan (13 weeks) because it would be a waste of everyone's time and resources and was just unnecessary. However I was DESPERATE to see that everything was still OK so of course when I went to my booking in appointment I 'accidentally' lost the bit of paper about the previous scan...... The only thing was that the midwife then got quite concerned that my OH wasn't there and said things like 'didn't he want to see the baby for the first time?'. I could hardly say 'oh its OK, he saw it last week!' so I just blushed a lot and made up some rubbish about holidays.
I am sure you will you get your scan - they might prefer you not too have it but you are still entitled to it.

not sure how old you are PL but perhaps you can insist on the scan to have the nuchal fold test?

Sorry just seen this - thanks for updating this Lois  :ellie: I have my scan at 3pm on Wednesay 14th and it cannot come quick enough. I am going to keep my mouth firmly shut about the private scan
Spritzer - I am 30 in September so no chance of a nuchal scan on the NHS.
Woolly - I had 3 early scans with Oliver due to bleeding and wasn't allowed to have my 12 week scan either:cry:

Just being nosey - this must vary from area to area. I had P when I was 28 and got a nuchal on the NHS and I'm now 31 and I'm having a nuchal next week. It must be your area's policy????

Do you know what Lois? As I was typing my last post I thought that maybe I am entitled to a nuchal scan. I was 27 when I had Oliver and just got a 12 weeks and 20 weeks scan. My NHS midwife hasn't said anything about a nuchal scan but the sonographer at the private clinic was pushing it - I just thought he was after more money!
Off to do some investigating .......
This Nuchal scan thingy must be a local policy, we dont get them at all in our area, unless you pay privately. You luck devils!8)
