View Full Version : How much do you drink?

After a heavy weekend last weekend (Mothers' Day  ) I cut right back this week.
But tonight I have been :winered: while cooking, which is one of my favourite combinations.
I also :winered: while watching TV or chilling out.
But I have been trying to separate the :winered: from the relaxing, so I don't associate the two. Not with complete success, yet
So - how much do you drink? A glass a day, two glasses a day, a bottle a day, a bottle a month? (Preggie peeps, please report on your non-preggie consumption!)
And has anyone got any good tips for cutting down? I was thinking that listening to my Paul McKenna CD might help, when I get round to it.

far too much pre-:preggie: I couldn't go out without getting totally hammered :-(
When living in Germany I would have a few drinks during the week (maybe 1 bottle over 2 days) then at weekends I would be out one of the nights and could easily get through loads of drinks... then the other night me and my best mate could easliy polish off a bottle of tia maria (with milk) or 2 between us and some wine, vodka or bacardi. I was a very bad binge drinker
Since being back in UK I probably would drink 2 bottles of wine on a weekend staying in and loads on a night out, but when my ex moved in I cut right down as he hardly drank and we were ttc'ing
Its only been since I have been :preggie: I realised how much I drank... and seeing my mates and other people out while I am sober, made me think what a twat I must have made of myself on a regular basis

Well, prior to TTC with Elise, probably a bottle a night and more at the weekend. Then TTC, we cut right down to weekends only, and now it's pretty much the same. I'd love to have a :winered: every night, as I LOVE a nice glass of red, but doesn't do owt for our waistlines or our pockets!
Since being pg, I have become somewhat of a lightweight too  (cheap date, moi? ) so a bottle between us and I'm on my way!! :cheer:
Don't think I'll be indulging at all tonight though, as I'm :flu:

Well, pre baby I used to drink quite a bit. I'd regularly have a bottle or two a couple nights in the week then more at the weekend. My OH was very strict during my pregnancy and it's only been in the past few months I've started drinking again. I'm enjoying a nice G&T at the mo and fancy more but the killjoy is already boiling the kettle  .

I don't drink much really. DH is teetotal but I will share a bottle of wine with my mom on a weekend.

Another tee-totaler here! Only drink I've had in the last 5+ years has been the odd glass of Bailey's last Christmas. I don't miss it at all and the thought of having a hangover and having to get up and deal with my kids is enough to put me off until they've all left home!

Before ds I used to be able to knock 'em back no problem - but since having him if I drink half a glass of wine I'm 2 sheets to the wind...

I too do not touch a drop! Have not had alcohol for about 7 years! I stopped drinking when pregnant with my youngest and just never bothered to have another one!
I don't like the taste now. I love being sober on nights out - LOL - you get to see everyone else making fools of themselves!
Mind you hardly anyone believes that I am sober as I just act the same way - LOL - a good excuse to really let your hair down and have a good night with no after effects!

I used to drink a lot and when I found out I was pregnant I only had 1 or 2 cans weekend sometimes some weeks I would not drink.
When I had Wolfie I stopped drinking for most of the time and by the time I found out I was pregnant with the twins I was virtually not drinking.
I have had three drinks so far this year (A new year drink with devil boy a tin of lager and a tin of Guinness recently)
I found that the tin of lager went strait to my head and I did not like the feeling at all. I also like being sober. I am thinking of becoming teetotal. I do not miss drinking at all.

Practically t-total me!
Have never been a big drinker tbh, even when i did used to go out clubbing etc i'd only have a few. I don't like the feeling of being out of control and thats how alcohol makes me feel. Not to mention nausious and generally ill so i don't see the point.
Friends etc always encourage me to drink and Dh drives me bonkers trying to make me drink when we go out or family parties etc. At least now i have Lu i have an excuse to stay sober so i don't get pestered any more by people trying to make me have a drink.
If i do have a drink its usually a tia maria and coke, i can manage about 3 doubles before i start to feel sick so thats usually my limit. I can drink larger but it bloats me so i don't bother usually. Wine makes me heave as does vodka and the like

Practically teetotal too
Last drink I had was a glass of sparkly stuff at Christmas.
Have been trying to get rid of thyroid cancer for the last 2 and half years (think I'm winning too :) ) and I've just gone off the stuff completely  .
Big believer in listening to the old body, it just doesn't need the stuff anymore.

My drinking is very erratic - will go ages without touching a drop, then have a couple of heavy weeks when I may drink most nights  .
Pre- Abby I definitely drank way too much, but once I found out I was pg I virtually stopped completely (the odd glass of wine during the final trimester and whilst breastfeeding).
Now the thought of being hungover with a 13 month old fills me with dread, so I usually only have a couple - but this can sometimes be a couple almost every night (on a bad week), so not ideal really.

Well, alcohol doesn't relax me, it makes me more sociable (in moderation! ) or a complete tw@t  in excess, so I am not the *having a bath and a glass of wine to relax* type.
I don't see the point in drinking on my own or just at home on a school night. If we are using wine for cooking or on a weekend I may have a glass (or half) but never anymore than that.
But I am partial to the odd pimms or cold beer if i am out in a pub.
I've done the drinking till your head s down the bog and then start all over again thing in my teens (and earlyish twenties ahem) and it has somehow lost its appeal. completely.
To make things worse wine is a russian roulette for me and I never know if a glass is going to knock me down ad leave me breathless and puffin Ventolin like an 80 year old with pneumonia...fun eh?

I barely touch the stuff - it gives me migraines. It has to be a very good reason for me to risk a glass, like Christmas or a truly wonderful bottle of wine. And I miss it soooooooo much.

Ha! Too much!
But I am about to start making some diet and health changes in my life so this will change.
I am however chilling a bottle in the fridge right now as my last hurrah tonight. I'll have a glass in the bath (soooo indulgent, I love it!) and the rest with some pizza.
I've also bought some Milk Thistle tablets to help support my liver.

Too much... Currently trying to cut down. I am bf, so mostly drink after the kiddies have gone to bed. DH brings home beer and between us we usually finish whatever he brings home. I am so   about it though, it's more just to have something to do while watching TV!
Last year before I got pg I only had about three drinks A WEEK  which was because I was exercising a lot. I hope to be back there in the next month or so.
When I was pg I drank maybe one or two units a week, usually with pizza while watching ER. :laff:

I have, on average, a glass of wine with my lunch every day - the doctor actually recommended a glass a day to me  Occasionally I'll have a tipple in the evening, but that's perhaps once every few weeks.

I love wine, but am not good at stopping. I'm more of a binge drinker (must be the Scottishness) so tend to open a bottle once a week and finish it rather than having one glass of an evening.

I don`t really drink mucch probably a couple of times a month. Now i wish i only had:choc: a couple of times a month:laff: :laff: .

I used to drink loads ! DH and I would get through a bottle of wine every other night and usually 2 per night at the weekends. I won't even go into how much I used to drink at uni
I totally got out of the habit with being pg and bf for 6 months. Maybe 1/2-1 bottle at the weekend but almost never during the week. I just can't drink how I used to and really don't miss the hangovers :wik:

I used to drink 1-2 bottles Friday and Saturday pre-pregnancy. Now I have a couple of glasses on a Friday and maybe a Saturday. I am breastfeeding so I have some EBM ready those nights for DH to feed LO with so I can finish the bottle. Needless to say that doesn't usually go to waste!

Well obviously being up the duff not much. I had some champagne at Christmas, and at a wedding a few weeks ago, but that's pretty much it.
Normally, I'm not a big drinker either. At school I used to do the getting plastered thing and never had a hangover, then suddenly at Uni I started being sick as soon as I was drunk.
I haven't been properly drunk for a few years, but I was sick the last time I drank a significant amount.
The most I probably drink is a few glasses of wine a night, and I might go through stages of drinking a bottle a week or something, but not all the time.
I come from a family of big drinkers though - I was brought up with 'alcohol is the answer' attitude to it. My Dad drinks way too much, and I hate it.
I know you're a G&T lady Damsella, and I do always have one when we're at my parents - 6 o'clock never passes without one! - but I HAVE to have ice and lemon and I'm not organised to keep stock in my own house.
If you feel you are drinking too much, then maybe limit what you buy, so you can't have it.

I have never been too much of a drinker, when home alone, not even touch it, as I really really don't feel like it. When I go out, I'll have 3-4 beers (as I don't like wine :loco: ), but not more than that as they physically don't fit (I'm quite small, you know  ). I reckon that's gonna change a little bit when I move in with Mr Raspberry, since he tends to drink more often during the week (specially before and during meals), but I hope it won't get too bad.

Me too Katoid, but my problem is leaving an open bottle. If it's there, it's there to be drunk ... So I just stick to drinking at the weekends.

Far, far too much! I can probably honestly say I would drink a bottle of wine most nights:oops:   And once I open a bottle I have to finish it. I start most mornings of saying I won't drink tonight but by the time I get home and relax on the couch I have to have a glass. Its getting embarrassing. OH likes to drink wine as well but he is a red wine man so he will have a bottle of red and I have my bottle of white. Problem is he doesn't have to finish the bottle where as I do:doh:
Joining weight watchers on Wednesday and I discovered that a 750ml bottle of wine is just under 9 pts:shock: I'm even tempted to try the weigh watchers wine. Anyone tried it?

Donna -j and Juppie - i am the same - just cant leave the bottle open!!

I used to drink so much before I became pregnant with Wolfie.
I have though gone off drinking since then though and I can count on one hand the amount of drinks that I have had this year.

Im a bit confused:puzzled: about alcohol and calories...
I always heard alcohol make you put weight on:ellie: but lately, I heard wine has virtually no calorie...I don t like beer but go for baileys or wine( red or white) anytime:wink: ..Is it fattening or not?

From what I can gather wine is really fattening and I would say that is the only reason I've put weight on because I'm not a big eater. Wine is just full of empty calories and I believe there is a lot of sugar in it. When my OH used to make his own, he used to have to put 6 bags of sugar to make 30 bottles of wine. Thats a lot of sugar:shock: Dont tell me wine has no calories or I'll never stop drinking it!

I think I probably drink too much and am most probably classed as a binge drinker. I don't drink at home that often and occasionally will share a bottle of wine with my H over dinner. If I go out though I will drink loads. I will probably have my weeks worth of units in one night which I know is really bad for me. I don't go out all that often though but when I do I have too much to drink. I never feel really drunk and rarely suffer from a hangover but I know that I have had too much.
I should really be more sensible I think. When I was a student I was out drinking every night so I am more sensible compared to those days. I can have weeks where I don't touch a drop but then might go out twice over the weekend and have loads.

I never ever drink unless I'm out with friends for a social occasion. I much prefer :choc:and a cup of :coffeetime::mug:when I'm at home. But, I'm afraid I'm one of those sad statistics that we call a binge drinker. When I DO drink I have no limits, drink far too much and wake up the next day feeling like cr@p...

6 bags of sugar for 30 bottles!!!!!!!!!!
OMG!
I got confuses cos I read a book about Atkins diet and wine and spirits were allowed, saying it contains no sugar(red and dry white) and let myself happily go for it:loco:
