Right - the outlaws (and BIL) moved out of their house in July last year and since then all their mail has been redirected to us:brainache: Anyway, BIL moved into his flat in September and the outlaws moved into their place in December. SOME of the outlaws stuff is still being redirected to us as I'm dealing with their business correspondence whilst they are overseas. But BIL is STILL getting his stuff delivered to us because in his words he cba to let the post office know he's moved. He expects me to go through his post too and for us to take his post to him (he lives 40 mins away)!!!

I warned him in January that, if he didn't redirect his mail then I would - to the bin!!!!!:bwahaha: He thought I was joking:bwahaha: Instead what I've been doing is writing 'return to sender' and posting them back.

DH has just found out I'm doing it and he thinks I'm being unfair. I think I'm perfectly within my rights - he's been in his own place for SIX MONTHS and he is 30 years old - old enough to take responsibility for himself. I have enough to do during the day without being his post office/PA as well. I'm already effectively working for the outlaws as they have cheques to write/accountants to deal with/HMRC correspondence to deal with.

What annoyed the feck out of me is that when I WAS sorting his post I discovered he'd used OUR address to open a store account with Habitat to buy his new sofa. I checked with DH and he hadn't asked DH's permission. I was  about it because he is in debt and now he's giving out OUR address.

So am I in the right or am I unreasonable????

You are 100000000000000000000000% in the right. Don't feel bad about it for one second Lois. He's a grown up now, let him sort it out for himself and if he doesn't........ stuff him

I agree, you are completely right about this

Its not as though you didn't give him any notice. 6 months is completely taking the mickey.

As you said, he is old enough to sort it out himself, after all changing your address for mail is a part of moving.

Thank you. I should say that he's not even told his bank or credit card company that he's moved - he obviously doesn't want to be found.

I think that you are defo right, and every right to be furious, especailly when he is using your address to get credit  i think you need to have a serious chat with him, and if he dont listen why not go and redirect it to him yourself at the post office????? (if thats possible) as hes wasted your time !!!!! Hope you get it sorted soon

I think you need ID to get mail redirected. I had to use my drivers licence to get mine redirected to my moms.

I would be tempted to open the credit card letters and call them saying "Oooops I opened this by accident, he doesnt live here... but here's his address"

You are 100% right to be miffed, I would be doing exactly what you have been.

No way!!! That's what he WANTS me to do - he'd much rather someone else do the dirty work for him.

You've warned him and told him of the consequences. He has chosen not to do anything about it and therefore the responsibility is HIS imho.

How long does your DH expect you to carry on doing it for?

Also you have to pay to have mail redirected don't you?

I know we're using Mr S's parents address whilst we're away and we made sure we went and asked their permission first, I wouldn't dream of doing anything like he has done its just not on

You are so not being unreasonable. I'd be fuming, especially if he's using your address to get credit. What happens if he's not paying his bills ?

redirecting isnt the answer

if he has opened things in your address and has told banks etc your address then thats serious - you house is at risk of being visited by the bailiffs and even getting bad credit because of him

tell your hubbie that - am sure he wont want you to end up unable to get credit etc because of him

and if i were you i would ring up habitat and the banks and say look he doesnt live here anymore and give them his new address or say you dont know his address so at least its on their systems incase he does a flit

we had a friend stay who did the same thing then moved to canada 3 months later and left everything registered in our address and basically did a runner - what peed me off is he didnt tell us this was his plan so we had to ring everyone up saying no he doesnt live here anymore and as far as we know he has gone abroad etc - still took a couple of months to stop them being sent to us - we rang them after spending 4 months doing the return to sender not at this address

its totally disgusting that he has used your address to open things with - usually they need a recent utility bill but many store cards just rely on him being on the electoral roll so i bet he hasnt been removed from your electoral roll!! ring up the council tomorrow and ask for him to be removed.......that will mean if he tries to do it again he will be refused plus he will be refused anyway until he gets on his own electoral roll etc

makes me wonder if he is upto something dodgy - defo get himm off the electoral roll, get the redirection stopped, ring any company that has your address with anything to do with credit and advise he doesnt live there!
