I have heard of this and visited the site when someone (Pancake01??) mentioned it on another thread.

However the whole site looked like it could do with some of the principles applying to it as it just had me :brainache: and I couldn't be bothered to read it

Can anyone share with me the best places on the site to visit?

It's a :pants: site, isn't it. Go to the beginners page - http://www.flylady.net/pages/begin_babysteps.asp

and read about what the principles are, then what I do is look at the zones and the mission of the day: http://www.flylady.net/pages/FlightPlan.asp

You can print off detailed cleaning lists from there.

I find it really useful - I don't stick to it rigidly, but I do have a shiny sink every night which helps massively with everything else. Also, it's a lot easier if you have a dishwasher  .

I can vouch for babysteps - (i meant to thank you pancake for mentioning this in another post)

I too go to bed with a clean sink every night - I may be quite a laid back mummy but i was in desparate need of order in this area of my life xx

Oh my Lord! I read this and went to the FlyLady site. I've cleaned my sink and spent far longer than 15 mins decluttering. It's made a particular difference to the junk cupboard by the side of my laptop so I'm feeling a lot better :meditate:. I may even have a :winered: to celebrate!

 well done HH! I have 'shined my sink' and I am having a :winered: to celebrate and to help me :meditate:!

I joined FlyLady a while ago, but I was getting email reminders to go to bed at 8am, and reminders to lace up my shoes in the afternoon :puzzled:

Glad it isn't just me  . I was completely overwhelmed by the site (not very user friendly!) and didn't pick up anything useful.

So this thread has helped me a lot!

Although I do ignore the testimonials I get sent, the flylady site and emails have really helped me get the house in order. It looks pretty immaculate now just in time for the inlaws to mess it up tomorrow!

I know what you mean about the email timings Suzie, I assumed that was because it's set for the American time zone. I don't get the whole wearing your shoes indoors either. I never wear my shoes inside, surely you're just going to dirty the clean floors doing that?:puzzled:

There is apparently a flyingintheuk yahoo group though at the time I last looked it was bust and I couldn't join. It should send the reminders at the right time, might be worth having another look.

Yep, FlyingInTheUK sends out reminders in UK time. I'm in the Oz one now.
I have to admit, I have read all the stuff but find it so hard to get off my bum and implement it - typical "SHE" LOL

I took a look yesterday for inspiration, the site is so messy and confused and dare I say cluttered!

I am doing the 27 fling boogie now. I have not shined my sink, I shined it last night and it is filthy again now and I am NOT wearing my shoes. Is there any sites similar to Flylady but more user friendly?

SB, I am a bit premature, and I'm not quite ready yet, but this a peek of what I am offering as an alternative.

I hope to launch properly by next week.

Oh wow, what a brillaint idea! I think my problem is less cleaning and more decluttering, the rooms that are clutter free are quite clean because they are so easy to clean. It is just the spare room, it is a glory hole for everything, I just chuck it in there and close the door

I think having a cleaning routine devised for you is a good idea, I often write out timeteables for my self to use but I never stick to them, it might be better if someone else did them.

like today I hoovered the lounge even though it was ok, I am in the habit of hoovering it everyday. My bedroom needs hoovered but i haven't done that for, well, too embarrsd to say.

I still have to do my 27 things to throw away today, I have done 27 things for the charity shop. And I'm going through blakc bags like nobody's business.

The thing with Flylady is, it's very American & also very religious, and so some of the things she talks about either don't apply to those of us outside the States or doesn't sit right with the non-religious.

However, the principles are sound and her "shiny sink" thing doesn't have to be the kitchen sink. You can make your bed your "shiny sink" - ie make it every day. And because your bed is tidy, the idea is that it makes you want to keep the rest of the room tidy too.

Also, one of the things I think she mentions is that you need to start off by decluttering before trying to implement her "system". There's a "31 babysteps to Flying" on her site which slowly helps you build up your routine.

It doesn't work too well for me but what I *have* done is draw up a list of what jobs need doing regularly in each room and how often. It's in Excel and when I've done it, I put in the date I did it and the formula tells me when it's due to be done again.

The "15min" thing is good too - set a timer for 15 minutes and see how much you can get done, even without busting a gut - it's pretty good. What I often do is have days where I do 3 x blocks of 15minutes of "work" and then 1 x 15min break. I get through lots that way
