It's suggesting time again! :ellie:Many thanks to all who are joining in the May recipes. It is interesting seeing how they all turned out and they all look fantastic!

For any new :damsels: ,Cookalong Capers is where we suggest a sweet and/or savoury baking recipe, vote on it and then make it and post about how it went and take a picture. You can make the recipe at any time in the month to suit you.

Now I don't want to be all :lecture: but I came across a couple of problems last time round so have to introduce some guidelines to help things run a bit more smoothly:meditate:

There is only room for 10 options on a poll and there was a lot of suggestions last time, so if you could limit yourselves to one recipe and that should give everyone a chance to choose.
When you post your suggestion, could you please link to or type out the recipe. This is to allow people who shop online to know what it is they need to buy and so people know if they have all the tins etc before they vote. I will be on holiday from 27th May - 2nd June so won't be able to do the monthly thread straight away. Right, that's the boring bit done. over to you for which SAVOURY recipe you would like to make in June:chef: I will start the poll on the 25th May to end on 1st June.

Thanks again AG for all your work!!! :flowers:

I really like the sound of these tiny cheese, onion and olive scones (http://www.deliaonline.com/recipes/tiny-cheese-onion-and-olive-scones,906,RC.html) from Delia. Those who don't like olives can just leave them out - I think they sound divine!

I maybe missing the point of the savoury here but I've been looking around for savoury ideas for baking and always seen to come back to a variation on the quiche/ savoury scone/ bread theme. Could it be broadened to include a savoury recipe of any kind ?

I appreciate that it's meant to be "baking" though - I'm just being difficult

angel - how about souffles as well - that is "baking" and would be fun to try.

Savoury Tarte Tatins would be good.

Maybe snacky things like cheese straws, samosas, sausage/cheese rolls etc.

It is much harder to get savoury baking ideas!

I've just got this recipe for thai sausage rolls (http://www.waitrose.com/food_drink/recipes/recipesearch/recipe/0605ss42-r02.asp) from the Waitrose freebie mag. Maybe a bit simple for the cookalong capers crew, but it is a baking savoury and it looks most yummy to me!

Maybe snacky things like cheese straws, samosas, sausage/cheese rolls etc.ooh I like the sound of this, then i can put them in packed lunches and at least pretend to be a proper mummy

I like the sound of those sausage rolls and little scones too. Perhaps a selection of little snack type things like "snack meze"? Or is this too much work?

Hmmmmm those sausage rolls look lovely. I'm looking for some nice savoury things to take on a picnic, and they look ideal.

I thought the bake-along was just an initial idea, but anything can be suggested for the cookalong capers??

Can anyone clarify?

I'm sure we've discussed this before, and I can't remember where we got to!

I think the history is we had a weekly cooking thread where you just cook anything and got inspiration from each other. But then we discussed starting a baking thread because it's the sort of non-survival cooking (what DH calls "stunt" cooking) that lots of us don't get a chance to do. That then split into a sweet and savoury baking thread, and got named cookalong capers because it was catchy. I think at this point a few people (Damz at least) thought it might be more general but most of the suggestions have been baking related because that was the original point. We do seem to struggle more with savoury baking ideas, though.

I have to say, I personally would strongly prefer it to stay a baking thread because my mum never did any baking (her MIL was very good at it and there was a certain "get off my turf" vibe going on) so I never learned. So baking stuff is always a bit magic for me.

However, I have to point out that because of all the diet nonsense in our house I'm unlikely to cook most of it - so I'm hardly the person to listen to!
