God do I ever quit?

Well after having a look for an *expensive* dress I can't really find one that I LOVE (although i am going to London in a couple of weeks for a romantic weekend with DH and will make him do the tour of Selfridges - oh how he'll love me :teehee:)

SO I'm looking for a really versatile dress (or a couple!) from the highstreet.

Is is possible to find a dress that can be worn in the spring with opaques and slams and then in the summer with bare legs or sheers and wedges (or whatever!)?

And one that could be smart enough to wear to a party or christening (trendy - not classic!!) and also double up for during the day (to get my money's worth :teehee:) over leggings or skinnies.

Colour - I'm completely open!!

I did post that one from French Connection and there is another dress there with a crocheted top in indigo blue that I think may well do the trick :scratchchin:

I would be so grateful for any others people think are nice!!

thanks a million fashionistas!!

eta - and it pretty much has to go in the washing machine as I have two small verrrrrrrrrry messy children :teehee:

I love this black and white one from Warehouse http://www.warehouse.co.uk/pws/images/catalogue/products/062023657/large/062023657_fr.jpg
Today I tried on this one which was gorge & could be worn all the ways you describe - think would be lovely with polo underneath.

Also tried on this, which I loved - and actually made me think of you! I saw a girl wearing it in a restaurant last night and was on the hunt, so couldn't believe it when I came across it today. Will def be getting it.

I trapsed round the whole of bluewater and without a doubt you need to take a looky in warehouse.

They had tons of gorgeous dresses in there which arent on the site, including a satin one with flowers and loads of pink flowers on the bottom -stunning!!

thank you so much chickie!!

have only just got back from being out otherwise would have told you that the purple dress was from FrenchConnection!

Was actually just having a look at the Warehouse site after the inspiration from sparkly and remembered this dress that someone posted the other day

http://www.warehouse.co.uk/pws/images/catalogue/products/062023615/medium/062023615_fr.jpg

I think that may work (although it's not washable ) but is quite wearable during the day with a poloneck undreneath and opaques and boots :scratchchin:

sparkly I love that flower one you posted - looks like a lovely shape. I think I would like somethin a tad smarter than the other two mind................... (although love love the botton one :scratchchin: looks like lovely fabric and a great fit )

and NM :spank: too expensive  and I do love yellow actually but was thinking about something more fitted!! I've had enough of smocky things like you!!!!

:thumb:

IME nearly EVERYTHING is washable except for suit jackets  so I wouldn't be TOO concerned about that. If it's cotton, polyester, linen or silk (and I'd be prepared to bet it's poly or silk) then it IS washable, no matter what the instructions say . You could try washing it by hand in very tepid water and then hanging it outside on a coathanger dripping wet so it doesn't get too creased - and then work upwards to your washing machine from there!

And :spank: to you too Mrs! I am not just someone :teehee: . 100% silk btw, and I don’t see why it couldn’t be thrown in on a gentle cycle…

Actually, I was going to repost that, and a very similar one to the yellow jacquard one NM posted, but a much brighter yellow, but I can’t see it on the site. I totally :lurve: it

Yeah I agree the last one would be too casual for your occasions but it is lovely on. Fants I think it's £40/45. I'm 34D and it's fine on me if that helps!

Kat, in the Times on Sat in the magazine they had animal print dresses. One was a GORGEOUS Marc by Marc Jacobs silk dress (sleveless, v neck, full-ish skirt) in cream with a tan tiger-ish print. It was :lurve:, and I thought of you!

Flipflop, I was going to post EXACTLY the same thing, saw that dress and JUST loved it.

If you don't have the mag, let me know and I'll save it for you.

Also saw this in today's Style:

Those boots are SO wrong with it but I really liked the look of the dress... LImited Collection £45

ooh I'll go and have a look (I do have it and just flicked over it as DH hates anything animal print )

That M&S dress is too pastel for me I think :scratchchin: I also can't get past the boots :loco: Wtf were they thinking

I HAVE actually seen two dresses that I would absolutely ADORE in this months In Style

On page 36 the silvery one from Wallis (and am so so so getting those silver ankle strap ballet pumps from Pied a Terre  god they're divine and I have so so much stuff already to wear them with!!)

I LOVE that dress but unfortunately they don't have it on the website yet  I also *think* it could work with opaques and slams - but not sure :scratchchin: Don't care though - it's perfect for all the things I have in the summer  I MUST MUST have it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

And the second dress is on page 40 - the black and green shift dress from New Look with the jewelled hem and neck line :lurve: god that is just utterly divine and I MUST have that too!!!!

They are exactly what I want so now am obviously on a mission to find them (and they'll probably never materialise in the shops - god I hate it when I see something I like in a magazine )

Don't suppose anyone has a scanner do they? (technobimbo I am - clearly don't posess (sp??!) one )

Kat you really MUST tell us what you think of that Marc Jacobs dress  I WANT IT! :hissyfit: :teehee:.

My In Style is upstairs but I will look at the two you have mentioned.

Did you see the John Rocha gold sandals on page 11 of the Style Mag today? Only £65. Mr Minky says "you should get them". I feel a trip to Debenhams coming on :teehee:. I could see you in them too!

xxxx

PS I know what you mean about those boots. that stylist should be SACKED. Who would put burgundy with pastels? :loco: And I wondered about the colours too, but you never know?!

fants I don't understand

Right had a look at the Marc Jacobs one and it is a lovely lovely dress but that style doesn't look great on me (somehow makes me look really frumpy )

BUT I am just loving that giraffe print dress from Moschino :lurve: Not sure I'd pay £375 for it though :faint:(actually I know that I wouldn't/couldn't :-()

Minky I did indeed see those gold gladiator sandals and they're definitely on my list of maybes  (the Jasper Conran ones yes?)

But I am definitely definitely definitely getting these John Rocha ones that are in the next piccie along

Kat I was hunting for that NL dress y'day - was so  when I realised that was where it was from. Let me know if you see it IRL.

And I want the silver pumps too - they're gorgeous. Can't remember the Wallis dress tho, will look later.

Not the gladiator sandals, the Gold ones next to the yellow bag on P11 (couldn't find them on the Debs website) also loving those JR wedges!!!!

That Moschino dress was also uber lush ... go on!!!!!

Right MUST hang out the washing instead of getting vicarious dress thrills from people who have a waist  :teehee:

I'm thinking that you didn't have any luck then Sparkly?? :-( I may well have to turn to the hunting powers of the damsels for help if it comes out and I can't get to a big New Look!!! I bet it's one of those things that comes and goes like lightening :hissyfit: Those pumps from PaT are just gorge aren't they. At least I should be able to get hold of those!

Check the Wallis dress out - it's a damasky sort of material in a silvery colour - just divine. (well imho )

Fants - believe me, if I ever do find the perfect dress, I'll definitely need another one for a different occasion :teehee:

Ooh Kat, have just gone and got my In Style to have a look at the dresses.

Not keen on the silver one myself, but really like the NL one. Very extravagant for a NL dress  . I am probably going to a big NL this week - let me know if you want me to have a butchers for you, what size etc etc.

I actually quite like the one next to the silver Wallis dress (Red Herring one).

NM unfortunately wrap dresses actually look pretty shite on me. I must be one of the only people in the world though, according to T&S  I think it's because I literally have no curves whatsover and no bust but am pigeon chested (attractive or what :happyno:) - they sort of make me look really hippy and just do me no favours whatsoever.

The only way I can get round that is to wear them with wide legged trews underneath and ballet pumps or flipflops (hence summerwear only)- I have two that I've bought in colours that I just love but they look just totally wrong (And really frumpy on me ) if I wear them without trews underneath.

However that is the Moschino dress - I just :lurve: it even though it would look utterly pants on me

That Wallis dress isn't on their website yet - I absolutely love it!!!! What didn't you like about it Brooke?? I just though the neckline was to die for and that shape really suits me!! (hides my shapelessness iyswim!)

If you do go to NL this week - I'm a size 10 and I would :lurve: you for ever and a day if you could get it for me!!!!! :ellie:

No I couldn't find the dress Kat but will keep hunting.

Was looking at my InStyle again last night and saw the Wallis dress - had missed it before and it's beautiful. I think the colour would wash me out but prob look good with your dark hair. I need lashings of self tan to get away with silver  .

Oh and the PaT silver pumps aren't the ones I'd seen before - they're in a later feature in the mag called Happy Shoes and they're shiny silver with ankle straps £180! :faint: Yours are cute too and a much better price  .
