I'm probably being terribly sexist here, actually, so I'd better give the massed ranks of Damsels a chance to prove they know more about this than some blokey forum

I'm wanting to fit a water butt to a drainpipe. I'll be using a diverter, and the usual method is to hacksaw out a section of drainpipe and fit a collar thing which contains the diverter.

The issue is that the drainpipe in question is made of cast iron . My guess is that you can't easily hacksaw a section out of a cast iron drainpipe - in fact I'd be surprised if you can cut it at all without it cracking.

Does anyone know, or alternatively does anyone know a DIY forum where they would know the answer?

Thanks!

www.diynot.com (http://www.diynot.com) - it's quite busy and the 'experts' on there have diagnosed a few problems for me that repairmen hadn't fixed after several visits!

I also use the DIY forums on www.moneysavingexpert.com (http://www.moneysavingexpert.com) quite a bit and they can be very helpful.
