Is there a specific limit to how much you are allowed??? With P I abstained totally (I drink decaf tea and coke anyway). This time around I've been really icky and drinks are making me feel yuck too and a couple of times the ONLY thing to hit the spot has been full fat Coke!! So far I've had two cans (during the pregnancy, not just today!)

Is caffeine a TOTAL no-no or ok in moderation? No bunfights ladies, just facts please.

Thanks

:wave: Lois, did you have a good hols?

I found this on Babycentre

http://www.babycenter.com/refcap/3955.html#1

I limit myself to one caffeine drink a day, so either a coke, or a latte etc etc. But thats not only cos I am pregnant, I pretty much gave it up years ago but still have the odd little bit.

Its okay in moderation. I think as long as you are not drinking 10 cans a day you will be fine! Apparently you shouldnt have much more than 300mg per day.

Rough guide for you...

One mug of instant coffee has about 100 mg caffeine.

One cup of instant coffee has about 75 mg caffeine.

One cup of brewed coffee has about 100 mg caffeine.

One cup of tea has about 50 mg caffeine.

One 50g chocolate bar has about 50 mg caffeine.

One can of cola has up to 40 mg caffeine.

One can of 'energy' drink may contain up to 80 mg caffeine.

Check the label on medicines for quantities of caffeine.

Thanks for that info guys - don't feel so guilty now!!! I have no problem with any of the other forbidden foods but this time around I'm a bit stuffed with the drinks making me feel ick as well as food!!!!

Thanks

Lois a bit late to this - but just to say I haven't managed to give up my diet coke habit - I have one or sometimes 2 a day - I think it was Shamu as well who said that chocolate has it in - so guilty of that too. I can't see that has done me any harm - I also get a bit sick of this don't eat this don't eat that thing - I'm sure they are more laid back in other countries.

Hope the drink making you ick thing passes soon - sounds awful - but I did embrace my nausea as it were this time as it is a very good sign that things are all going nicely.

I'm trying to do this too Az - last time I was really wretched and felt dreadfully sorry for myself but this time I'm trying to be more positive about it being a good sign. I'm trying to be more positive all round this time as I have a notion that my negativity during my last pregnancy didn't do me one bit of good!

Thanks - oh and atm I'm off chocolate which is a real revelation as I'm normally a chocoholic!!!

Bubs is really active, maybe this is why
All my scans and tests have come back fine and MW says bubs has a very strong HB. She says its one strong healthy baby so I am not worried at all

I totally went off coffee/ tea/ diet coke in the first 3 months it wasn't a conscious decision . I now have a few mugs of tea a day . I think its fine in moderation but I still cant face coffee.

I'm in the exact same boat....most drinks make me feel ill but a cup of tea or a bottle of Coke make me feel better! Caffeine seems to cure my sickness almost!

Have tried to limit myself to one can a day, and one cup a day of tea. I'm also not eating very much chocolate at the moment, Jammie Dodgers are my craving atm, along with healthy stuff like strawberries, grapes, apples, and melon.

Sounds like we have similar cravings! When I was expecting P I craved apples and strawberries and this time it's been strawberries!!! I absolutely LOVE them. I went to sainsburys at lunch and bought some ready sliced, washed ones from the salad bar for now and two punnets for later!! Can't get enough!

Hope you don't mind me saying this but I think this is really positive. I remember your last pregnancy and I would agree that you were pretty negative. Perhaps now you have P she is more of a distraction than focusing on every aspect of being PG - esp the bad bits.

Don't mind at all Spritzer! I was very grouchy last time which is odd because Paige was SOOOO wanted and planned but I guess pregnancy wasn't the wonderful glow I had expected and that in turn I guess made me feel really negative. I was also pregnant at the same time as my two best friends who really suited pregnancy and I felt hard done by because I was sick every day and they weren't.

I don't really have the opportunity to wallow this time with working full time and having an increasingly demanding toddler so hopefully it will be positive all round.

I've told work today and they've been fab which is a real help!

That's all really good stuff. However planned and wanted a baby is the shock of pregnancy can be a bit much!

I keep deluding myself that my pregnancy was easy and then I remember the headaches, swollen feet, heartburn, sciatica, insomnia and think - who am I kidding?
