I don't live far away. Haven't been into Yarmouth for a while, but I suspect it's very similar to when you were a child...
Nice beach (busy in summer, though), lots of seafront archades and a theme park with a roller coaster, horse & cart or mini train tours of the beach front etc. Sort of a mini Blackpool.
The area's lovely. Within driving distance we have...
Norwich city
Dinosaur Adventure Park (Norwich)
Pettits Animal Adventure Park (between Yarmouth & Norwich)
Lowestoft - lovely sandy beach
African Animal park (nr Lowestoft)
Norfolk Broads (boating day trips etc)
Pets corner at Oulton Broad near Lowestoft
Etc
There are a couple of Damsels who live much closer to Yarmouth than I do & can probably help more. See the regional Damsels post for East to see who.

I visited Great Yarmouth last year, just for the day and have to say I wasnt overly keen on it. However I preferred Lowestoft and we also visited Southwold - there is absolutely bugger all to do there but its a lovely lovely place, with a beautiful pier (no amusements etc) and lots of gorgeous beach huts that sell for upwards of £40K! Really nice village.

we went to some zoo type place just outside of GY, then there is Sealife too that is on the front. Where are you staying

As scatterbrain said it's probably the same as when you were little.
I prefer Lowestoft for the beach and the pets corner at Oulton Broad is ok for the children.
You might also like to go further up the coast to Cromer,Sherringham and Wells.
They do great crabs in Cromer!.

Yes.. last Friday! Shopping at TK Maxx, Next etc at the retail park.
I live about 40 minutes from there in a tiny boating village (so a world away from GY, but near enough for all the amenities). Embarrasingly: we have been up this way for 5 years and *still* have not yet taken the children to the fair there...
Have had a couple of weekend breaks for the kids (down the road as you do!). Can recommend Burgh Castle, Sheringham and Hunstanton. Or you could try a *slightly* more inland place to stay and just do a day or two in GY itself... there are so many beautiful places to see over here.... beaches from about 10 miles north of GY are nice (just moved house from one of those villages.!). Lowestoft is Okaaay...plenty of (too many?) £1 shops in the town, but interspersed with high st stores.

Ooh Dorset, definately my fav place!
Swingo  you must live fairly near me !!!
GY has changed alot since I was a kid although I haven't been there for ages. I prefer the north suffolk coast and north norfolk now tbh.
Have a lovely holiday whatever you decide
