View Full Version : What aromatherapy oils would help in labour??
I am planning a home birth or at least to stay at home as long as possible and would like to try to use oils to help with pain relief etc. can anybody suggest any oils that they have used/ heard may be usefull, thanks
(will post in baby as well)
I think clary sage is supposed to be very good for making your contractions more effective but I would guess this isn't ideal for pain relief. Maybe trusty lavender? I've got a kit at home so I'll have a look in that. It's the Labour Saving kit from Natalia - you can find it here - http://www.vitaltouch.com/cgi-bin/vt.cgi?referrer=http://www.google.co.uk/search?q=aromatherapy+labour~hl=en~lr=~start=10~sa =N&page=natalia.html - I don't know how good it is though - I bought it when pregnant with B and never even opened the box! I hope it's still good this time around.
I found this on ebay as well - http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Aromatherapy-Labour-and-Birth-Kit_W0QQitemZ7749931405QQcategoryZ121631QQcmdZView Item - I might give this a go myself!
i used rose because i just loved the smell at that time, it was very calming  i'll probably use it again this time too.
i have heard that peppermint for the nausea is good, frankincense for erm calming i think, and lavender for healing. didnt get to use them due to the emergency c-section, but i use the lavender in my nappy bucket now - so they wont go to waste!!
