Right then, this double buggy issue has been occupying my thoughts to a ridiculous extent and yesterday I did something about it.

If you were in Newcastle John lewis, or Gateshead Mothercare World and saw a hugely pg woman on her knees measuring buggies that was me  I must have looked ridiculous, but for some reason I decided measuring was the only way to decide it.

I have also been toying with getting the powertwin, because Molly was really comfy in the front seat which reclines, but I've decided it is too big and also the JL lady didn't recommend it. However she did try to persuade me that Molly would fit in the Combi:happyno:

Anyway, I've taken some measurements, which I know Katkinn for one wanted.

Mutsy:

Width at handle: 48cm
Distance between axles: 49cm
Length: 77cm ish
Height from ground to top of carrycot (feet end): 80cm
Width from outers of wheels: 62cm

Powertwin:

Width at handle: 45cm
Distance between axles: 72cm
Length: 120cm ish

Bugaboo Cameleon:

Width at handle: 46cm
Distance between axles: 58cm
Length: 79cm ish
Height from ground to top of carrycot (feet end): 64cm

I would be really grateful if a Cameleon owner could measure the distance between the outers of the big wheels for me:thumb:

Phew! Unfortunately mothercare didn't have a Bugaboo in stock, so I couldn't compare them side by side. HOWEVER although the measurements seem similar they are very different in the construction of the chassis.

I had a good play with the Mutsy, and decided that without swivel wheels it was impossible, but I'm not sure it would make much difference. It took about 5 attempts to tip it back up to get it onto the display stand (height of a curb), and even DH had problems.

Anyway, we have a winner!:ellie: :ellie: :ellie: DH says that we should get a Bugaboo (I have nothing suitable for a newborn) - and I'm not complaining, and I'm going to almost definitely order the Cosatto Duet Lite once the baby is here; I am also going to get a buggy board, just in case that works too.

My only reservation is that although it's compact, the CDL weighs 16kg, which is the same as the fully loaded Mutsy, and 1.2kg heavier than the powertwin. However I think Smiley's rec will do for me.

It IS going to cost a fortune, however the resale value of both in good nick means that I probably won't lose any more money than if we'd bought cheaper ones. Used CDL's are going for only £25 less than retail on Ebay, and Bugaboos also do really well.

Last time round DH was a student, so I know how lucky we are to be able to get both. Having been through two different travel systems last time, I've decided it's best just to spend the money and get the ones I want, rather than compromising and regretting it.

Apologies to those who hate the buggy discussions, but hopefully this will have been so boring for you, that you'll have stopped reading by now anyway:laff:

Anyone else made a decision?

Hope this info is of use to someone.

Not that I really belong on this thread 8) but I saw a woman at Kew Retail park the other day with a Mountain Buggy double and I asked her about it. She was really friendly :cheer2: :cheer2: .

She said she'd had a Phil and Ted's which she got rid of as it tipped (hadn't heard that) and that her wee one had put her hands on the wheels.

She said the mountain buggy double was fantastic - it's 75cm wide so fits through a normal doorway and she has never had trouble getting into a shop. She said it was amazingly easy to fold, though a bit heavy getting it into your car and if you were always in and out of your car it probably wasn't the best choice.

You can also have a carrycot (or two) on it though she said it wasn't really necessary as it lies completely flat (she had her toddler asleep in it and she was very flat!).

She said it was really easy to push (I pushed it and agree it's better thant the Bugaboo), and she really loved it.

Also when it's folded it stands up independently so would stand in a hallway.

Hope that's helpful to someone!

Sparkliness, wish I'd been in Northumberland St at the weekend, would love to have seen you out with your measuring tape!

ooh minky could you do me a massive favour and measure the distance from outside wheel to outside wheel (back wheels - if that makes sense!!!)

Personally I think the mountain buggy is absolutely massive and far too large to use in London. There is no way it would go through my front door or fit in my hall way so is a real no no for us. In fact the bugaboo only just fits through our front door!!!

And v interesting about the P&T's. I feel all vindicated!!!

Thanks VERY much for that sparkliness!! V interesting indeed. I tried out the cosatto lite (errrrrrr lite my ARSE!!!!) and it was just a total  for me. Mainly because of the seat at the front which is basically a perch and there is no way on hells earth that H could sleep in that!!! Plus it's far too long to work in town. Boo hoo.

I've done all my research and have worked out that if I don't have something that H can sleep in then I'll only be able to go out around her nap which means that I can't go out for the day and will have to race back for her nap which will drive me totally doolally and I'll effectively be housebound :hissyfit:

Which basically leaves me with the very light but potentially lethal (plus baby bouncing around an inch from the floor  ) P&T or the Mutsy.

I can't actually even find another option :hissyfit: Apart from two buggies and I've already GOT two buggies - I definitely want to keep my Ziko which the baby will be able to go in with H on a buggy board for short journeys.

BUT I have found that they do (apparently) stock the Mutsy at Mothercare in Watford so DH has said we can head up there after our holiday!!

At this rate I shall just be putting Little Boo in my handbag :faint:

I already have a Quest and a Zapp:doh: I'm keeping them both though, because I think that when DH and I are out together for the day Molly can nap in the Quest, and the Zapp is good for planes and also takes the cabrio car seat.

So I will have 4 buggies! Really need that house with the double garage now... Not that we'll be able to afford it after all this buggy buying:laff:

Re the Mutsy - I still haven't seen the duoseat, but what Andie said about Dylan being big in the seat, when he's a year younger than Molly, also put me off.

ooh actually that's a point about the bugaboo - both H and Minky's Lulah are actually pretty much too big for it in lying down mode - their heads touch the top of the canopy

NOW interestingly after practically breaking down in tears in Mothercare last week, they DID say that an option is to order it on the tinternet, have it delivered to your house, assemble it, play with it (indoors) and if you don't like it, you can return it to any mothercare for a full refund...........:yeahright:

I've said this before but I have the Out N About Double Nipper and it's FABULOUS :ellie: So get mine, get mine :laff:

We did try out the Double Mountain Buggy too which is also completely fab and very funky but sadly we couldn't afford it :-(

The Nipper is suitable from birth as both seats recline completely flat. And Sam is a big lad for his age and he is very comfy and still goes in it without complaining.

Hmm, not a bad plan, except the bluddy thing is out of stock (like most things) on the Mothercare website.

Now bubble we definitely haven't forgotten about this and in fact Minky and I were talking about this the other week BUT she did remind me that it doesn't have a front swivel wheel (this is correct yah??!!) which means that in London that's a HUGE  :sigh:

I WAS thinking about getting something like that and then keeping my bug BUT a) I have too many buggies and a titchy house and b) it's still too big to fit through my front door and in my hallway!!!

 that'll be right!!! Well it was in stock last week as she checked for me, so it may be an eye keeping your eye out for it!!

You're right Kat, it has a fixed front wheel (here in Cheshire it's not a problem :laff: ) but there is an almost identical buggy which has a swivel front wheel but I can't for the life of me remember what it's called

I hadn't thought about the side-by-sides being a no-no in places like London cos it's very different where I live so size isn't a big issue and my pushchair is practically titchy :laff:

Kat - did you mean for me to measure the MOuntain Buggy double?

I'd have to stalk that lady to be able to do it ;) and carry a tape measure in my handbag, but of course will do it if I can.

otherwise, go to mountainbuggy.com (or something like that) - maybe they'd have the measurements there?

Agree swivel wheel is utterly essential AND that Lulah is already too tall for her Bugaboo - which is really p*ssing me off tbh. No way should she be too tall at just over 2 .

I have the double Mountain Buggy which I shall measure once my twinnies are in bed, I have never yet encountered a front door it can't get through, but you would need a biggish hall to keep it stored without having to clamber over it.

I think the Nipper-ish buggy with a swivel wheel is called a Twin Twister, I wanted that for a while but the Mountain Buggy won out for me.

www.pushchairs.co.uk is a really good Mountain Buggy site that has all the measurements and technical stuff.

ok, our posts have crossed so I won't measure, look for the Twin Twister though, it might be what you are looking for.
