Can someone tell me what this is please? It is on my sons school dinner menu and I have never heard of it
I tried googling it but could not find the answer.

LOL - I have never heard of it - when I googled all I got was boats and sentences like this one:
"lady sipped Baileys in tartan pyjamas and hiking boots while a ruddy-cheeked ... I told her in any case she might be carried off by a selkie and never ..." :laff:

Well a Selkie is one of these:
Selkies (also known as silkies or selchies) are mythological creatures in Irish (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Irish_mythology) and Scottish (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Scottish_mythology) mythology (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mythology) that can transform themselves from seals (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pinniped) to humans, where "selkie" is simply the Orcadian word for "seal".
Is it a main course or a pud?

It's listed on the main courses. I am glad I am not the only one who hasn't heard of it
N M That was the result I got too! I am really  now. I will have to go into school tomorrow and ask what it is!

Never heard of it! But am intrigued now - you'll have to let us know what it is once you find out! Maybe they've just made it up to make the menu sound exciting??!

That's what I thought RedTiger. Either that or they put it in to see how many parents pay attention to the menu!

I'm guessing its made up! Perhaps fish stuffed with haggis? Selkie is definately a seal.

Not only does that sound :sick:but it is too far removed from pizza and chicken nuggets to feature  Although I am impressed with the changes they have made. Chips still feature cunningly disguised as 'sauted potatoes'

Well, I asked the secretary who replied "what's a what?" :puzzled: so I then asked a dinner lady who also didn't have a clue  but she said she would ask the cook for me.
So, I saw said dinner lady and apparently the cook has never heard of it either so she has never been able to cook it
I am still intrigued as to how it has managed to make its way onto the menu when no-one has heard of it though :headscratch:
