DH and I are trying to spend less on food (not easy as he is really fussy and we both have expensive tastes!)

Racking my brains to think of cheap(er) meals - I don't mean beans on toast or soup type things, as he has an enormous appetite and if I don't make a "decent" evening meal he will just eat all sorts of crap later on which defeats the point.

We used to eat a lot of chicken, but it's quite expensive so we're cutting back on it a bit.

Any suggestions?

This week I have done shepherds pie, sausage casserole (nearly) and breaded chicken with cauliflower cheese - nothing exciting but they were all filling and quite cheap to do!

How about pasta bakes, you dont have to add meat, I always add cheese for protein and lots of mushrooms, onions and peppers.
Salmon fillets are fairly inexpensive how about those with a marinade and some new potatoes.
Turkey seems cheaper than chicken how about that as an alternative it is a bit tasteless so I always make a sauce to drown it out
