Erm, but their rules are that staff are not allowed to wear jewellery on display - only under their clothing, hence she was asked not to wear it on display.

:agree:
I appreciate the crusifix and what it represents is important to many Christians, but frankly I think the woman is making an issue of it just for the sake of it.

But the question must be, why are you not allowed to have it on display???

I would imagine it's because they want their staff to look neat and tidy and well presented, and if they were allowed to wear any jewellery they would all be wearing different stuff, rather than all looking the same. The fact that it was a religious symbol that she was wearing is irrelevant.

Plus I think it's a health and saftey issue. Imagine if a irate customer was kicking off he/she could rip it off etc. There are a lot of jobs that ask for jewellry not to be on display - nurses for example and they don't complain.
I think she's making a fuss out of nothing but that said it should be the same for everyone and if I remember rightly when i saw her on tv before she said that BA allowed muslim women to wear bangles etc So, it shouldn't be 2 seperate sets of rules.

Completely agree.
She could have worn it anyway. In any event, its only a piece of jewellery. It is not a tenet of Christianity that you wave a crucifix round in the faces of all and sundry or, in fact, wear any symbol of your religious faith. I think she's making something out of nothing to make a point against other faiths where wearing something or other may be required as a feature of the religion. She needs to grow up and stop being so evangelical. Who cares what religion she is? Why does she feel the need to show it off? I am sick to the back teeth hearing about religion and people wanting exceptions to be made for them on the grounds of an intangible 'belief', to be honest....

I think as an airline they have to appear totally neutral. I think displaying obviously religious symbols when you're representing an airline in these times is asking for trouble. Plus she was allowed to wear it, if it was concealed. I totally agree that she's making a fuss for the sake of it.
However are other employees allowed to wear burkas, turbans, those little jewish hat thingies etc? If they are then she should be allowed a cross as a religious symbol, but if they're not then she shouldn't.

They are allowed to wear turbans, hijabs, etc, but purely because those items are impossible to conceal. Jews generally don't cover their heads outside the synagogue (unless they're very strict orthodox) but many women wear the star of David which would have to be concealed in the same way as the cross.
I do sort of agree that it should be one rule for all, but hijabs, etc, are part of religious tradition and are not supposed to be removed, whereas wearing a crusifix is a just a matter of choice for a Christian.

Jewish ladies do cover their heads of sort outside the family home with a wig

Oh yes I forgot that! Although, I can't say I've personally come across anyone who follows that tradition (my oh is Jewish - although he's become a none believer- so I know quite a lot of Jews through him).
