H wasn't walking last year so I didn't have this problem but I desperately need to get her some sandals for her holiday next week.

But I am really worried about which sort to get for her to wear without socks, as I'm concerned about her getting blisters.

Am I mad in thinking this??

Can anyone recommend any?

I did get her some lovely little beach sandal things from Gap which had velcro fastenings but she just sat on the floor when I put them on her at the weekend and took them off - undid the velcro and said NO shoes, and refused to wear them

So ones without velcro I guess!!!!

They do have some little cork soled two bar leather ones in Next that I was thinking of going and ordering today (they have buckles rather than velcro)

Thanks for any help (and can I just confirm that they DO wear the sandals without socks, don't they??!! :teehee: )

We used doodles without socks last year with no probs (if they get a bit whiffy they can be washed). Because they have buckles they find it harder to take them off ;-)
I also had some LOVELY sandals from an independent shoe shop which were velcro and again, he wore those without socks - well he HAD to they were open toed and there's NO WAY he could commit the "socks and sandals" crime against humanity
the Next ones sound lovely but I know that Birkenstock won't let you buy their sandals for under 3s as they say the cork base isn't forgiving enough for their developing arches/feet..... Also, I always get blisters in new sandals....
Not been much help have I!

Oh dear - we have been known to commit the sandals and socks crime - I though little uns could get away with it but perhaps I am mistaken?

Not always - but certainly more often than not! (I think it looks quite cute!!!) I couldn't bear for her to get blisters.

I don't make her paddle in the sea with jellies and socks!!

Sorry - meant to say thanks shamu!! !(and interesting about birkenstocks, although they definitely sell smaller birkies than for 3 years olds - they have them in One Small step  )

I was thinking about the corkbed ones on this page:

http://order.next.co.uk/page.asp?b=G30&p=344&o=1

Or would the little canvas boots or little lace up canvas shoes at the top of the page be better????

Can anyone recommend where else to get them from?

I can only get to highstreet shops (ie Mothercare, Gap, Next rather than Woolies or any supermarkets )

I've had these flaming Gap ones for ages thinking they'd be perfect but she won't have a bar of them  )

i've been thinking about this too as i've just bought these little cuties for ruby
http://i3.tinypic.com/x1ixpe.jpg
and was wondering if they are going to rub her feet if she goes sock-less.
but the thought of her wearing socks with them makes me shudder :oops::eek: !!!
we'll be buying doodles again this year - love that you can just bung them in the wash.

SPOOKY PV - they're exactly the ones I'm thinking of!!! (see above post!!!)

So doodles are ok with no socks on...................

Loving the sandals. We have Doodles for Eilis - which are fine with oir without socks. But she can manage to undo the buckles - little monkey! The only shoes we have for her at the moment that she can manage to take off herself are a wee pair of pink desert boots which are lace up.

forgot to say that afaik, doodles are ok with no socks on. i've not read anywhere that you *shouldn't* put bubbas in shoes without socks. i cant see what damage it will do, its not all of the time is it

isn't it kinder to let them wear no socks and let their feet breathe if its a hot day??

I'd heard that about birkies for under 3's too shamu. i was going to buy a pair from Papillio, until i spotted the next ones, which are practically identical, but a fraction of the price

I don't think socks and sandals look bad on children.

Lucy had a little pair of foam sandals with a velcro strap for on the beach etc and she didn't wear socks with them.

On the evenings with her pretty little dresses she had a pair of white leather sandals from next, these too had velcro fastenings and she wore those little white/pink socks with the frills on. I'm not normally a fan of those pretty socks but they looked cute with her dresses and little sandals.

splahsy's been wearing sandals without socks all summer, so much so that he's been fascinated with the 'zix' we've put on him now we're in winter shoes and refuses to take them off....

if you want me to be totally honest (and i knooooow you do - at the risk of starting a doughnut fight) i wouldn't put splashy in cork soles just yet, i would still be looking for something fairly flexible, with not such hard edges on the sandals.

splashy didn't get blisters, but his sandals were very squishy and the leather was sort of edged, so not hard if you see waht i mean.

the other thing to consider is its v hard for them to walk on sand, so not sure if the hard soled shoes would be too difficult on sand as well. they might need to wear shoes if the sand's really hot or stoney.

just my totally uneducated opinion but only going by experience of this summer.

where are you off to anyway?

Thanks everyone!!

Bisy we're off here:

http://www.sanroqueclub.com/en/resort.html

for 10 days! :cheer2: :ellie:  can't wait!!!!

mm good point about the sand, but I don't do sand so we probably won't go to the beach - definitely a pool person me!! (tbh where we're going isn't actually on the beach so chances are we won't even see it!!!)

More excited about H seeing all the horses!! (although I can't go riding :sigh: and she's still too little)

mmm that's a good point about those Next cork ones - I think a canvas one will be much better. I'll go and have a look in Next now and head to Mothercare later in the week. The ones I had from Gap were brilliant, a cross between a rubber sole with rubber and canvas two straps but she just scream and takes them off (I think they are very stiff and have little bobbles on the sole under her feet and I'm thinking she doesn't like them and finds it difficult to walk in them  )

Doodles are fine with or without socks as they have closed toes. Same goes for any other closed toed sandals (I think Clarks do some for instance)
But open toed sandals and socks    from me I'm afraid - mind you I don't have much fashion sense so you can all tell me to get lost
John Lewis sell Doodles and you don't actually have to get them fitted. I think Mothercare do too (but M'care are only Clarks whereas JL's do the Start Rite equivalent too).
The canvas tie up ones from Next look lovely too
Enjoy shopping ;-)

Those sandals are gorgeous!
This shoe shopping is difficult, we are goign AGAIn today to get her feet measured, she has been a 3 f since about jan/feb time and only has her deeply scuffed boots, so whether shes gone up a size or not, she's having sandals! and she might wear them with socks :wik:

I would say take some socks with you just in case!

Last year I bought my son velcro open sandals from Clarks for our hols and they cut his feet on the first day. He wore them with socks for the rest of the holiday - although I had only taken 2 pairs for travelling in and washed them out every other day!!

Right well I have bought 5 pairs of shoes for H from Next and hopefully one pair will stay on her feet!!!!

I also got another hat so she now has a selection so will see if the "choose a hat" option works!!

Thanks!!

J wore cork soles last year from Adams and was fine.

Let's be honest here too folks. We live in Blighty. It rains a lot. How often are they going to wear their sandals?
Enough to damage their feet? I think not!

Oh B*LLOCKS!! Well we had a big shoe trying on session tonight but the sandals didn't go down well to say the least. There was much :hissyfit: on Hettie's part if I so much as put a sandal near her foot.

Eventually we did get them on and she stood there crying with each pair.

I left it till a bit later - putting her fave shoes back on, putting the sandals on bear and dolly etc but she wasn't having a bar of it.

I got the cork sandals, some normal leather sandals and some jelly sandals - every single one of them she totally freaked out at.

In fact the only ones that she loved were the little canvas baseball shoes which she legged it round teh room in.

Should I just knock the sandal idea on the head and let her wear the canvas boots in the summer????

HELP!!! God who would have this would be confusing

LOL bless her. I'd try again when she's feeling a bit calmer and if no joy, then go with the boots. I wonder why she didn't like them? Startrite have their own mega cute version of Doodles with a different pic on each foot - have a look on their website. They look lovely and soft and 'non irritating' ;)

Blimey!

What a palaver! :hissyfit: :hissyfit:

Last year on holiday Lulah wore Ella Azana's clark's sandals - which were velcro (I was too stingy to buy her new ones for 1 week :teehee: :teehee: :teehee: ). She was fine with them, except for one day when she wouldn't put her foot down. The creche had put them on too tightly

I haven't put Lulah's Gap ones on her yet - hope they are ok as I don't think I have the receipt   .

Hope you can get it sorted hun! I was planning on getting those cork ones for Lulah too!

My son (now 8) always insisted on wearing socks, and still does, even in the summer and even with canvas shoes or sandals. He refuses to wear flipflops. I would take socks with you, just in case (and some travelwash!)
