This has been bothering me for a while now and now other people are starting to comment on it its got me worried.

Lucy is extremley clumsy, she is always falling over, walking into things etc etc. She is covered from head to toe in bruises, her legs look horrendous and even the HV commented on them the other day and asked if she'd "been in the wars" i explained that she was always falling over the the HV said she'd be more concerned if she didn't have bruises as she knows how accident prone toddlers are which set my mind at rest a little.

Over the weekend we went out with family/friends and a few people commented on how many times she fell over. Now she is a pretty steady walker and has been walking since she was around 11.5 months properly. She walked head on into the corner of a table whilst we were in the pub  and bruised her eyelid which swelled up, but was fine   :-(

A few people commented on how she always hurts herself when we go out somwwhere and how clumsy she is. They were joking because DH is pretty clumsy and always breaks things. BUT then one of the "mums" with toddlers too, suggested i get her hearing tested because she thought Lucy could have a balance problem

Now i don't personally think there is anything wrong with her hearing and i don't want to sound a complete pratt by asking my GP to do her a hearing test because she's bumped her head a couple of times.

How often do your LO's fall over etc, i'm sure its just normal for toddlers but i want clarification that Lu isn't the only walking disaster area :sigh:

Have you just described James?????
He's covered in bruises (and nearly a year older than Lucy) and I'm not at all concerned. It's just as well that he jumps straight back up though otherwise I'd be constantly cuddling a toddler who's just fallen over  He just doesn't look where he's going and gets overexcited and bumps into things. Loads of toddlers do that (and yes, tonnes of them get referred to physios/occupational therapists/doctors and there's nothing that can really be done). Some children just seem to take longer to "find their feet" iyswim. James is certainly never going to be a gymnast :laff: I'm one of the most accident prone people I know and clumsiness does have a hereditary aspect so perhaps she's got that from your DH ;-)
I'd just keep an eye on things for now - try and ignore "helpful" comments that just leave you  (I'm sure your friend meant well). Unless it's actually getting worse then I woudn't personally go and see anyone.

Thanks you two, that makes me feel a little better at things. She IS on the go from the second she wakes up until whenever she decides to go to sleep, and she DOES get very excited, in fact another one of the useful comments was that Lucy was also hyperactive   and said i shouldn't let her drink so much pop!! For the record Lucy doesn't even drink cordial or fruit juices, JUST water   and she said this whilst her 3 year old was necking a pint glass of coke :teehee:

I think i'll just keep an eye on her for now and maybe mention it in passing to my HV whenever i see her again!!

PS: Whilst i've been typing this reply she's walked into the wall, the sofa and fallen off her chair twice

PPS: Shamu, luckily Lu isn't a cry baby either :wik:

Billie is exactly the same and she's nearly 2 and a half. She never walks and always runs, is covered in bruises and bumps. I wouldn't worry too much.

Katy is this your 'friend' with the 3 kids again?
I don't know how you can stop yourself from smacking her one sometimes with all her helpful comments.

Well currently Dylan has 3 bruises on his forehead and a nice discoloured eyelid. He is always walking into things and falling over. Normally he is walking thru the living room and falls flat on his stomach. He has also just discivered the art of falling on his bum.

I was given the advice by MIL that he falls over because he is always barefoot on our wooden floot, but if he wears socks he slides all over the place and if he wears his shoes indoors (which I personally hate and never do myself) then he trips over his toes.

I would only really worry if she is falling over without bumping into something or is looking a bit dazed and confused. She might just want to get someehere quicker than she can manage.

As for the comment about her being hyperactive well thats just really unfair as if she really had a problem then you would know it by now.

Ignore the woman she is obviously just a bit :hi:

 Andie, it actually wasn't our friend with the 3 kids no, it was her SIL  and she was there too :loco:

I think tbh they forget how their kids behaved at this age, but one of them will have a shock come November as she'll have a 4 yr old, a 16 month old and a newborn :teehee:

(said in Morcambe and Wise style) GET OUTTA THAT :ellie: :ellie:

On a serious note, she generally runs into things and thats why she falls over. I think its more a case of the fact that her brain works quicker than she can move, so she's always thinking one step ahead of herself but can't get there in time, iyswim!

i wouldn't worry katy, splashy is the same, he falls over standing still and quite often when he is walking.

it seems to be quite common amongst splashy's friends who were walking early - they just charge around and fall over, whereas the slightly later ones are more considered and take things more slowly.

honestly, as with all these things if you don't think there is a problem there probably isn't.

I really wouldn't worry Katy. Amber always has a row of bruises from ankle to hip and one on each side of her forehead . I think it's cute when they tumble and wander around like a :zombie: bumping into things!

Like the others have said, I wouldn't worry about it.
It's just her exploring things!

The other thing is that if you have two kids who fall over all the time, but one has really fair skin, that one will bruise way more. And then you start wondering why and noticing every time they fall over etc. etc. So you may just be noticing Lu falling more because she gets more bruises.

Helena really does fall over all the time (her left leg doesn't work properly, for one thing) but is very rarely bruised because she seems to have her father's skin, not mine.

Really MrsD don't worry. When Claire was Lucy's age she was forever walking in to things or tripping over stuff. She still does but is better at seeing things in the way now. Its perfectly normal toddler behaviour - they just don't look!
