I'm going to the baby show in Brum in a few weeks and thought I would buy a few bargain bits and pieces if they had them.
So what can I get for Jacob? Things I already thought of were some next size grobags and possibly a bumbo. Do people rate the bumbo? Are they worth it? Will he get a decent amount of use out of it? What ages is it good for?
Any other ideas of what might be useful. I went to the London one last october, but was pg, so it was from a completely different point of view.
Thanks.

Ooh, probably not much use to you really but we had a Bumbo for Niamh, and hardly used it. We had it when she was just over 4 months (the earliest recommended age if I remember right) and she just never really looked comfy in it. Lots of people say it's good for weaning if they can't sit up themselves but when I tried her in it she just kept putting her head down when I was trying to spoon food into her mouth! Not very successful.

Anyway I'd say the thing with Bumbos is they either love 'em or hate 'em! But you can sell them on Ebay for a really good price, so if you feel the urge to buy one don't worry too much about it being a waste!

Which day are you going to the Baby Show? I think I'm going on Saturday, although Friday's an option too - will prob make my mind up nearer the time.

Im going to attempt to go Saturday too! I use the Bumbo for Mini IBs feeds and its fab for us as shes too wobbly for a proper highchair yet but I need to be able to use both hands.

Top tip for the babyshow - keep walking past the persil lady, we ended up with a tonne of washing powder by the end of it :D

Yeah we got loads of washpowder last year too!!:laff: It IS good for freebies like that, but tbh I didn't find much in the way of bargains.

We bought one of those Tomy front pack carrier thingies that was reduced to £15 cos it was one of the ones they rented out during the show, but it turned out to be a bit of a waste of money for us in the end, I bet I only used it half a dozen times, if that.

I'm going friday with my mum. Grandparents get in cheaper which is great. We got loads of stuff from the persil lady last time too which was great.
I'm also looking for advice etc on weaning & am hoping to get some cheap bottles. We only have one 9oz one all the rest are titchy. When Jacob needs a bottle feed he is getting towards the stage where he needs the bigger one.
I shall probably come back with far more than I intend to, but at least I will have the pram to carry things this time   :ellie: :ellie:

I am still using the free washing powder from the London show! My mum and OHs mum were complete nightmares!

I never found many things to be a bargain at The Baby Show, I just like it for a day out, and I dont particularly care about bargains, I just like shopping!

We have a Bumbo for Isabel, she does like it but we cant really leave her in it at the moment as her head is still a bit wobbly so she looks like a nodding dog! Like Diddlum says they sell on Ebay for a great price.

When I go to the Baby Show I am looking out for weaning equipment (ie spoons, containers etc), perhaps something like a swim seat, swim nappies etc for holidays and some toys and books!

I went to the BabyShow in Brum when i was about 10 wks pregnant and still use a lot of the freebies i got :bwahaha: :teehee:

I didn't find however that i got any bargains there, nothing was any cheaper. The only things i bought was a little outfit from Blooming Marvellous (well stepmum bought it) because i was only 10 wks and didn't want to get anything too soon. I did however find it very helpful to look at all the buggies etc.

As far as bumbo's are concerned i had one with Lu and tbh it was a waste of money :-( she used it for about a month or so but soon realised she could pop her bum out of it and used to fall backwards out of it which obviously isn't good. After that it never really got used. I ended up selling it on ebay and luckily made my money back on it. I certainly wouldn't recommend them.

One thing i did find helpful was all the leaflets i got, i've still got some because they relate to toddlers rather than babies, lots of useful information.

The fashion show was brilliant to watch too!

 :ellie: :ellie: :ellie: oooh if they have it there, will you let me know what you think purrlease!!!!! (v wise choice btw  :wik: you know my thoughts!!)

(sorry for thread hijack!)

We had a bumbo and H absolutely hated it. I'm going to keep it for number 2 and then ebay it. Personally if I had my time again though, I wouldn't get one. Total waste of money in my opinion - there are so many other things that you can use which are just as good (bouncy chair, carseat, curved cushion etc etc)

But just my opinion - I'm sure if she'd loved it, I'd be singing from a totally different hymn book!! I would try and see if you can borrow one from a friend to try it out though (H screamed as soon as we put her in it - moron me didn't bother to try before I bought - )

Have a great time!! I so wish I could go but Birmingham is such a pita for us to get to and we're on holiday anyway!!

do you mean the duo seat? Can you put the toddler in either of the duo seats and just buy the newborn foot muff thing for the other seat?? do neither of the duo seats recline? (sorry for all the questions and I'm so sorry for the thread hijack Mrs B  )

I recommend the Sophie giraffe, looks like a dog toy but the lady said if it wasn't my baby's fave toy she'd be very surprised. And what do you know, Del loves it! I don't know how I'd replace it if she lost it as I don't think they are sold in many places here.

Yes Katkinn it's French, it is supposed to be a bestseller there for the past 15 years or so, though the woman was prob just giving me the hard sell. Was only £5 though.

It is soft rubber/latexy stuff and the antlers are hard for teething. Del prefers to chew the legs and she makes a squeak-squeak noise with it. :laff: She has it in her cot and her pushchair, everywhere really. It;s fab.

Thanks for that AG - will have a look out and pick one up for Little Boo (at the moment, the poor sod just has all of H's hand me downs as I keep saying - well there's no point in buying anything new when we all this crap from just two years ago :teehee: )
