This is a letter in the Times from a retired squadron leader
"Sir, During 27 years’ service in the RAF I learnt how to handle weapons, parachute into quite dangerous and difficult locations, and rescue people from life-threatening situations.
I was, therefore, dismayed when buying a poppy in the centre of Cardiff last week, to be told that the young woman vendor could not give me a pin to fasten it to my coat for health and safety reasons.
There was a danger, she said, that I might injure myself with the sharp point. "
