MIL was on the phone tonight to my hubby and they wondered if they could get Logan his first bike for Christmas.

Personally, I think this gift is something that your mum and dad should give you, not your grandparents and have said as much to OH.

SO, now it looks as though we may have to get him a bike for his Christmas (not an expense we'd planned on)

Now neither of us have bikes, so he won't be out on it all that often anyway, so I don't want to have to spend a fortune, however want to make sure it's safe/etc etc.

Not a plastic toddler bike either ladies...

any recommendations?

Lex got a bike last birthday from DH's parents. We chose it and they stumped up the money!! We got a Raleigh one as I like them and is this one: http://www.raleighbikes.com/cyclesproductdetails.aspx?ID=85 (we got it cheaper than the price on the site)

Lex loves it as it has crocs on it.....

Logan is already three, so we're looking at his first proper bike (iyswim)

that's pretty cool actually, but I can't see us paying £80!!

Do you think I'm weird for wanting to buy Logan his first bike then?

Apparently they are getting one for Amber (Logan's cousin who is about 6 months younger) so that's why. I'd rather they saved their money tbh, he doesn't need much at all!

We are looking into getting Ella a bike - probably a raleigh - looked well made - the 12" girls' version was £50 in halfords I think - must do boys' too - IF I get time to look for DD's will let you know what I find....we tried her sitting on a few bikes - best off doing this I think. E-bay maybe? I was also going to try to ask on freecycle or look in local ads - I don't think I ever had a NEW bike when I was a kid.

MG - Think we paid £60 for it, and might have been the 12" wheels one that you can see in Az's link.

And don't think you are weird about wanting to buy it yourself. There are various things which I feel the same about and won't let them be bought by others.

OOh, thanks so much gals...there is a Halfords less than a mile from here that is one of the big ones and it says online that they have bikes/cycle shop there. We would of course, and I've just realised, have to get him a helmet too. I guess I could ask MIL to get that for him...they are probably around £15?

There is an action man bike, 12" for £34.99. Says out of stock online, but maybe they can order it in the store...there is still plenty of time. I think we could just about afford that seeing that I'm now on Mat pay.

That's part of the reason I'm pretty much done all my shopping because I knew we would have little/no money after October. We actually already HAVE all of Logan's Christmas presents, this would be an extra!

We bought Blair the action man one from Halfords for his birthday and it is great. I am not a big fan of character stuff tbh, but DH bought it without me and came home with it, and Blair loves it.

We quite often go round the block on it and he has really mastered how to ride it which is great.
