I'm voting for the scones as well!
I was going to vote for the mini muffins but then saw they'd got goats cheese in them - bleurgh

You could always substitute for something else. I don't like goats cheese either. The good thing about the cookalong is that we probably will all do it a different way and can see which substitutions work. If the Asparagus Tart wins I will be using something else or I will have to eat the whole thing myself as no-one likes asparagus here

I was a bit slow off the mark this month with the site being down then getting used to the new one. I'll try and be better next time.
I just noticed the poll closing date is at the top of the page.

The muffins look lovely and OH would love them - two flavours too

errrrr am I missing something??
a) why is everything vegetarian
b) why isn't there a proper meal as such (bar the tart thing which is MEGA fattening)
I surely can't be the only one who is watching my weight :happyno: and don't need muffins, scones and tarts hanging round the house :happyno:
I *thought* the point was to cook something that was
a) difficult so we could all practise and see if it worked and
b) something special that we wouldn't cook normally
none of the above float my boat  :-(
(and obviously not many other people seeing by the lack fo responses :-( )
But chances are I've missed something as I'm a dufus at the moment
Twas really looking forward to having a crack at a good, difficult, time consuming, special occasion, savoury meal :-(

Aah - now I got the impression that this cookalong was about baking Katkinn. So my mind was on savoury tarts, pies etc. I think that was the original idea but then again I could also be totally wrong!!!! :laff:
Good idea about trying a very difficult time consuming meal though - maybe that could be another challenge we have on a monthly basis? :ellie:

Yes you are missing the fact that its BAKING!!!
Because you don't often get a chance to do it in day-to-day cooking thats why it would be a challenge.
I would have thought AG's initial name of a bake-a-long might have given it away?! no? ;-)

I would have thought AG's initial name of a bake-a-long might have given it away?! no?
mmm so can someone therefore explain to me why this thread is called "cookalong" rather than "bakealong" ;-)
ooh and just been and had a look and infact all the threads with suggestions are also titled MAY COOKALONG! HAH!!! NOT such a dufus!!!!!
And I personally consider "baking" anything that goes on the oven - no?? Rather than fattening scones, muffins and tarts!!! (and surely there aren't THAT many options that you can do other than a savoury tart, a muffin or a scone. A pie maybe?)
oh well - I wish you all the best of luck ;-)
eta that I have noticed ORGINALLY it was called a bakealong when AG was seeing if anyone would be interested - BUT that was in a SWEET option and then the idea of a savoury cookalong was brought up on the thread. So shall we settle at us both being right and me still being pissed off that it's savoury fattening cooking HA HA HA HA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Did you miss this then Katkinn?
Maybe it would be nice to start something up? It would be nice to try some very complicated recipe once a month and discuss/compare.

Is it nesessary to be so picky about a fun cooking/baking thing? Just wondering? It's once a month so there is plenty of time for YOU to make some suggestions of your own Kat
I'm not trying to be rude- honest! but that bugged me a bit.

Don't know if I'm being a thicky or no, but the link for the recipe to Asparagus and Cheese Tart links me to the sweet suggestions!!!!
Can anybody let me know where it is please?

Thanks very much, my girlies love baking and we usually do sweet stuff, muffins and the like so looking forward to trying them with something savoury.

You're absolutely right and I apologise to August Girl and everyone who has been far more constructive on this thread than me.
I have no excuses to make rather the fact that I was in a totally foul mood yesterday morning due to the fact that
a) my mum was coming up which always stresses me out beyond belief
b) I'm expanding like the goodyear blimp at the moment and heffing on the weight on every part of my body which is really really getting me down (so hearing about scrummy fattening baking things pushed me over the edge  )
c) I don't have many baking utensils and we really can't buy any more as we have nowhere to put them due to living in a shoebox (which on a totally different subject is stressing me out hugely due to the fact that I loathe clutter and the amount of toddler and baby crap that we're acumulating with no fixed abode of it's own is bringing me out on hives on a regular basis :-( )
But these are just excuses, I was being short tempered and crabby and when August Girl has gone to so much effort and other people are excited about it, my behaviour was really crappy and again I apologise.
Forgiven please??

ps Narcissa I think your idea is great - do you want to start a thread??!!
Narcissa Malfoy

katkinn :grouphug:
LOL - if you start the thread I will join in!!!!
I am not the world's best cook and hardly have the culinary skills to lead a thread all about complicated meals!!!! :happyno:
Hope the day with your Mum went okay.
Awe I know what you mean about piling the weight on - with my first baby I went like a pig :pig: even though I was sick all the time and hardly ate a thing and it got me down. My second I stayed tiny all over yet I was feeling so much better and ate really well. I guess what I am trying to say is I really think pregnancy weight gain is out of our control up to a point. ;-) Just eat well chick.
Oh I am with you on the clutter front - I too develop a very Anthea Turner like personality on such matters so that would be getting me down too. Baby stuff takes up soooooo much room!
Oh BTW - that low fat risotto was lovely! :ellie:

Hiya, late to this as I've been away this weekend.
Just to clarify, I origianally started the idea as a bake-along for sweet things that then triggered the suggestion from someone to have a savoury and sweet (I don't usually do savoury, more of a cake gal myself ;-) ) Then it was suggested that the name was changed to Cookalong capers which I was happy to do. It had just moved along with peoples suggestions and I've tried to be as fair as possible so as not to exclude many people but sadly that has happened and I'm very sorry.:sigh: I've only done as asked.
I only put through the recipes that were suggested so if there are any that people would like to try then please do post them for next month.

Right, have now managed to download recipe, only to have DH turn his nose up at it :hissyfit: , something to with the lack of meat I assume!
Will make it anyway, and bogger to himself.

I'm only just back (haven't been on here for a few days) but naturally Katkinn you are forgiven and given the mood I'm in today you are more than forgiven - I understand how those fingers can fly.
We can do something nice and complicated for you next month or on another thread  oh and I'm sure you don't look even a tenth as bad as you feel you do.
August Girl - you are doing a fantastically amazing job honey, sweetheart (have I offended enough folks with my use of pet names  ) and we are glad you are doing it for us. Now I'm off to look up the winning recipes - woo hoo.
