I posted recently on Rosa's thread about some bladder issues and I am booked in to see the Dr on Friday but in the last 36 hrs I've started feeling very uncomfortable.

I'm getting a lot of cramping in my lower abdomen and my back is uncomfortable too. I was waiting for Oscar to get out of the toilet earlier and because my bladder was full I was doubled over in pain as it was cramping. After I'd been, I was a little dizzy momentarily and while there was a residual ache, the cramping eased off. If I bend over it can start it up again, and if I sit down heavily - like drop onto the sofa, then it hurts.

If I didn't know better I would swear I was heavily pregnant (which I am definitely not!) with all the heavy pains and discomfort I'm feeling. Me period started on Friday but it's not period pains as I have experienced them in the past.

I have no temperature, diarrhoea, nausea or any of the other symptoms listed online for UTIs but I can't think what else it might be so wondered if anyone else has had similar.

I didn't know whether to call the Dr and try to get in before Friday or just wait it out with cranberry juice and paracetamol.

If you have that sort of pain and it is a UTI, you need a doctor (and antibiotics) soon. If the infection travels to the kidneys and is left too long, the damage can be irreversable. Cranberry juice can help but should not be relied upon as a cure.

As a male-at-birth it is rarer for me to have UTI's but I did have one a few years ago. The only symptons initially were a funny sensation when the bladder was completely emptied. I ignored this hoping it would go away and then the backache started and I knew I had a UTI. A dose of antibiotics sorted it out.

My partner also gets a lot of these, she is diabetic and prone to them as well. She can't feel any pain from them at all and it's often only symptons of her being in a state of confusion that leads me to suspect a UTI. There are rarely any other symptons so don't rely on what you have read. One good test is to look at a sample of your urine, preferable first thing in the morning. Most uring contains a few particles but if it has lots and smells unusual then suspect UTI.

Again if it's spread to your back, see someone ASAP, tomorrow preferably.

Thanks ladies :flowers: I know you're both talking sense. It's kind of on the left side of my lower back and in the last hour or so has spread lower, almost in my coccyx which is really weird. I'd prefer not to have to take Oscar with me but that would mean waiting until Friday so I'll give them a call in the morning. Mind you last time I tried to book an appt when i already had one on the system I had to fight tooth and nail for it

I think I have a sample bottle left over from when i was pregnant so if I get an appt, I'll take a sample too.

eta: just sitting on the sofa and lifting my knee to tuck my leg under me has me crying out in pain so something definitely isn't right

I definitely agree with what Lucy has said, and hope that you manage to get an earlier appointment. Hope you feel better soon x

Left side lower back almost definitely a UTI. I had a bad one for a few days but I put it off thinking it was where I had been leaning back painting the ceiling. In that exact spot though and turned out to be an infection.

I couldn't get an appointment today but I am feeling a bit better, certainly less painful so maybe it's on the mend? I'm still going on Friday for the other bladder issues I wanted to talk about but hopefully it won't get worse again. If it does I'll try again to get an appointment.

Whenever I've left them thinking they would sort themselves out the Dr has told me off for leaving it so long and it ends up serious. Friday should be ok but she can quickly check it whilst you are there I expect.
