Hi

Ive got my 6 week postnatal check up tomorrow but I'll be damned if I can find Arthur's red book/health record

I can't remember whether I needed it with the girls' checks.

Also, what sort of things do they check usually? Ie. do I need to have a quick tidy up down below, like?

I don't know what sort of things they check - have mine in a couple of weeks... but I was told you take the red book to every appointment - sorry  x

I did need my red book - the Dr filled in a page about Ben's physical development. As Arthur is your first boy - be warned - they'll check his testicles, so you'll have to undress him completely.

My Dr didn't even look at me, let alone give me a physical examination - despite the fact that I'd had a 3rd degree tear and huge blood transfusion

Your red book will probably be wherever the 'big brown envelope' is with all your hospital notes are (the ones the midwife took post birth).

I think at the 6 week check they do quite a thorough check of bubs, I can't remember me being checked at all! Xx

There are 2 appointments here at 6 weeks - one for baby and one for mum. They are both quite thorough  I was certainly examined both times and my c-s scar checked carefully.

I was examined downstairs both times but had bad tears both times so may have been cause of that.

I've had three babies and never been examined at a 6 -week check. First time the Doc took my blood pressure and asked me if I was feeling OK. Second time I can't actually remember much about at all but know there was no examination. Third time a midwife phoned me to offer me an appt when Dd3 was about 3 months old, I told her that since I hadn't carked it or anything I'd rather not bother at that late stage, so I didn't even get a check.

Babies were all checked thoroughly at their 6 week appts though. I did have their red books but don't imagine there would have been a problem if I'd forgotten them.

I've never been examined at 6 week checks, despite having sections and infected scars. Just got a grilling about contraception (and pnd 2nd time round as I'd had it before).

I don't htink they'd exactly turn you away for not having your red book, they must have central records (our surgery is computerised) but it's easier for them if you do have it.

Thank you all that's very helpful- so it must depend on the doctor. Actually it would be nice to know all is well down there as he was such a huge baby.

Ill have to keep looking for the red book. I think I must have "put it safe" along with my notes and his birth certificate
