View Full Version : Getting over being so run down.
Chickpea

I've been unwell for just over a month now on and off. I've been battling colds/conjunctivitis/sore throats/sinusitis. (if you're my friend on FB you'll know all about it from my constant bleating, sorry :oops). I'm on antibiotics now, so hopefully that'll knock it on the head. But whenever I do anything at the moment I break out in a sweat, so I'm clearly not quite there yet.
My immune system is seriously challenged due to taking immuno-suppressant drugs, and I think it's largely due to that, but I think I need to take better care of myself.
So, I've given up the booze for a while (had a blip last week and the v next day I felt terrible again!) I'm trying to get more sleep and eat better. But what else can I do??
Mum is going to pick up a multivitamin for me today. But does anyone have any better ideas.
I'm itching to get back to exercising, but until I'm completely well I really don't think I should.
All ideas/suggestions v gratefully received.

I had a similar thing towards the end of last year when even after a dose of anti-biotics I could not shift a chest infection. In the end getting as much rest as possible helped me. Not easy, but if you can spend a day or two just in bed and go to bed as early as possible it does help.

I know, you poor thing, your immune system must be shot at the moment :higgies: Really hope the Antib's kick the sinusitis arse completely this time!
My mum took echinacea tablets during her chemo to boost her immune system which did seem to help. Also heard good things about Metatone (http://www.boots.com/en/Metatone-Original-Flavour-tonic-300ml-_537982/) xxx

Sounds like you're doing all the right things.
I think these things just take time to build up again, particularly if you are taking immuno-suppressant drugs.
For me, getting enough sleep makes the biggest difference to whether I catch whatever bugs are going about or not.
I follow a 80/20 (ish) rule with food that I eat healthily 80% of the time and whatever I feel like the other times (without stressing about it). I drink pints and pints of water every day too.
I also gave up worrying a few years back which has improved my health no end.

Sleep, sleep, sleep  If you're feeling up to it try and go out for a little walk each day, just to get some fresh air and daylight.

I too could have written this post.
I feel exactly like you Chickpea, have a sinking cold/cough which just won't shift and get a sweat on even when just walking somewhere. I'm also taking antibiotics so am hoping that'll help.
Hope you feel better soon

Floradix is a great liquid vitamin supplement when you're feeling run down. It's liquid, all natural, and easily absorbed (get me - I sound like an advert!) and you can get one with iron in it.
Also liquid echinacea is good - again because it's easily absorbed.
This year (touch wood) I've avoided most colds or they've been mild and I think it's because I've been taking loads of Vit C regularly (500-1000mg). This also helped me a void a stonking hangover recently so it's good all round
