Hey ladies :wave2:

I've been running for about 4 months now (not continuously  ) but hadn't entered anything so was just plodding along doing 5-6k once a week.

Then at the weekend, a friend 'gave' me her Great South Run entry as she's not ready for it (4 weeks on Sun!) and I ended up doing a 7 mile run on Sunday, non-stop! (This is so weird, I still can't believe I'm writing that!)

Anyway, I'm constantly thinking about it now, and googling for advice etc, & my DH/friends are getting fed up hearing about it  so thought I'd come along here for some virtual company and mutual motivation :thumb:

So who else is running at the mo? I just love it, it's so addictive!

Yay you! Go DQ!

I am still running. I had a little break a few weeks ago as I had a niggly hamstring and I didn't want to cause further agro. But it has cleared up now, and I am absolutely loving running atm. I am signed up for a 10k on November 5th. Normally I run about 5/6 miles, so just under 10k, but I am looking forward to getting that little bit further.

After that I am signed up for a New Year eve 10k with another couple of crazy Damsels, which should be good. I am properly bitten by the bug though, so have my eye out for other races that I can do. The Great South looks fab, but I think it is just a bit too far for me this year. Maybe next.

My long term goal is the first Cambridge half marathon in early March, which I have registered interest for, as entries haven't opened yet. So I need to work out how the blazes to get my distance up to over 13 miles!

Keep up the running chat, the other running thread went a bit quiet didn't it?

Meeeeee! To be fair I've only just started again after having a break of about a year (sheer laziness!)

I'm doing a lot of run-walk-run-walk at the moment, but really enjoying it!

 i'm still running.... glad to hear there are more addictees out there!

i last ran on saturday - did about 16k, and it was lush. hmmm. can you say that about running?

i need to be back up to 21k fairly soon ish (my last long run before sat was 18k so shouldn't be too far off) cos i have to add it on to the end of a 90k cycle by may next year

s-j wishing you better soon, how are you finding speed walking? is it as  as it looks?

DQ i'm sure you'll be fine, it sounds like you've got all the motivation you need which is at least half the battle, if not more!

S-J, that would be brilliant if we could do the Cambridge half together. The thing that I find the hardest about running is all the hanging about at the start when you are on your own. I'm quite happy once I get going not to know anyone, but I feel a bit of a wally beforehand. And I so will not thrash you time, I'm not that quick at all!

Hope that leg of yours is better soon x

Yay bubbasweet! It's lovely to be out and enjoying some peace and quiet I find. I read recently that running is one of the best forms of exercise wrt depression and stress, and I really believe that is the case. I always feel so much better and more positive after a run. Somehow whilst running my mind wanders around, and works stuff out for me for the best.

bbxx Well when I say speed-walking, for me it is just a fast walk, none of that  stuff! Although I do go off-road as I dont want people in cars going past and thinking "why isnt she jogging, lazy cow"

Aww SarahR, know what you mean. Its lovely to have a friendly face beforehand. Ive had my sister and Helski at the races Ive been in. Ive also made DH and DS come to support me as well!!

Bisyb you are one amazing woman exercise wise :hatoff:

totally this, i find it so theraputic. i often have a trance like experience with my running where i'll know that the last time i looked it was x km, then all of a sudden its x+5 km and i have no idea where i've been or what i've done. i guess if you think about it our minds very very rarely have that extended time when they're not properly focused on anything at all. i sort out loads of stuff on my runs :)

someone also told me recently that runners have lower incidences of osteoporosis than other athletes so lots of reasons to run.

thanks S-J, well you know my reasons for running - dulls the pain etc  so not really that amazing given the alternative is probably alcohol or shopping!

I had a brilliant run on Friday night, I could have just kept running and running. It was a beautiful evening, nice temperature for running, and I just felt so mentally together. I felt sorry to arrive back at my doorstep!

For some reason, every time I have an actual race to run though, there is some kind of freak heatwave, and the going is so much harder than it really ought to be (although the experience itself is brilliant). I am hoping that I will fare better with my next ones, the indian summer surely can't last until Bonfire Night!

Hello can I join!

I recently started going to a running club, ladies only and LOVE IT! This is coming from someone who has NEVER run!

I've signed up for a 10 week course where you aim to be able to run 10K by the end of it!

First week we ran 3 miles, then last week 4 miles so I'm quite proud of myself!!

I haven't been in for a while, but I'm still running, off and on. We are down in London for a few days and I went running on Saturday but my chest really hurt, so I'm going to circuits today instead as I wonder if it's the pollution.

I am finally getting an inhaler to try, even though nothing's changed in my breathing, it's no worse but no better! I'm hoping I'll be able to do more than 30 mins without coughing or wheezing though.
