View Full Version : Are you doing anything to save water?

With the reservoir levels in the UK being so low, I am even more aware than usual of needing to save water.
I already turn the tap off when cleaning my teeth, because to leave it running is such a waste.
I am also thinking of putting a brick in the loo cistern.
We don't have a car to wash or a garden to water, so that's good.
I already take showers instead of baths, maybe I'll cut back to one a week :laff:
Are you doing anything to save H20?

Hmm, yes, very good suggestion from natacha there. I will add that to my "Water saving" list :retrotype:
Also, how about bathing in milk, and drinking hot chocolate instead of tea? And having wine instead of water with a meal?
The possibilities are only just beginning to occur to me! :laff:

I don't specifically do anything to save water TBH. Having said this, I already keep the tap turned off when brushing my teeth, I take showers, I don't flush the loo every time I use it, I have no car to wash and no garden/lawn to water.
I reckon I'm doing more than enough! 8)
I shower and now I only have to wash my hair twice a week so that's a bit more saved :D And DH and I shower together when I go to work...
James has quite wee baths and will share with his sister when she comes along
We have a dual flush loo and I use the quick half flush 90% of the time
Brush teeth with the tap off
We have a timed water drippy thing for the garden which isn't on at the moment but it measures how wet the soil is and only waters when really needed (and I "think" it's more economical than hosing it daily!)
Try to only wash full loads - both in the dishwasher and washing machine
Not sure if there's anything I've missed....

I knew there was a good reason for me having a dirty car :car:
I don't water my garden because it isn't up to much and needs totally landscaping (which is too posh a word for my bit of lawn :laff: ) I haven't got a dishwasher but I only do full loads of washing, or use the half load setting.
I tell DH that flushing the loo every time isn't really necessary but he just thinks I'm being yukky

Rent the movie "Meet The Fockers". In it, Dustin Hoffman's character famously says:
If it's yellow, let it mellow.
If it's brown, flush it down.
See, it's a well known fact that you don't need to flush the loo every time. There's even a jiggle for it.

:laff: I forgot about that, I will remind DH of it. :D

Well, I hardly ever wash my car.
We tend to shower rather than bath (except DD)
I have never left the tap running when I brush my teeth (for at least 30 years!)
Don't have a high maintenance (in terms of watering) garden.
We only ever flush the loo when 'necessary'.
So all in all I think we're doing our bit.

OH I must be the worst
My car is always dirty but apart from that I wash my clothes after 1 wear, although I always make sure I have a full load (which is everyday) I dont always wait for the dishwasher to be full to put it on, I run the tap while brush my teeth, although I shower I put it on when I get up then make a cuppa tea and Ken's brekkie, then get in it (about 15 mins later) I have a shower every morning and a bath most nights, I flush the toilet every time I use it   I drink gallons of water too, which I suppose isn't bad but on top of everything else
I am so going to make more effort now... I feel really bad and so wasteful
