I wondered if anyone can give me a quick opinion on website layout? We are doing a new website at work and I prefer one option and my boss prefers the other! I can often persuade him round to my way of thinking on things but on this, I can't explain why I prefer a certain one and I just wondered what other people think. These are just mock ups of course but the sizes, positions etc are approxiately right. The strap line is too long to fit exactly under the logo (like the Damsels one does for example!).
This is option A

And option B

Thank you!!

I prefer B - because the strap line is long, it looks better next to the logo, rather than underneath it. Just my opinion though, I know nothing about this kind of thing!

Option B. Beacuse the eye is drawn across the page and shoppers know exactly where the search box is as they've already seen it!!

Option B for the same reasons as Dilly.

Option B. It looks cleaner I think.

I don't like either really :meh: Can you not have the strapline on two lines, and put it under the logo?
And, do you definitely need a strapline? Even the :damsels: one is pretty redundant these days.
I prefer option A I think option B seems too close together I like the clear space in option A I think it's easier to see what you're looking for it doesn't seems as cluttered

Thanks for all the replies.
My boss prefers option B so it is interesting that most people agree!
What you say is interesting, Damz as the designers came up with the design below (I'll call it option C) - if it was down to me, I'd stick with C I think. The angle of the strap line does suit the overall feel and design of the site (sorry that I can't post the proper design). I had no problem with the option below but boss thought the strapline looked "plonked". Unfortunately, it does really need a strapline, at least initially but it may be an option to reduce the length of it by about 1/3 so I'll suggest that :thumb:.

The best straplines are two or three words. Can it be rewritten?
I'm not liking the angling though!

I think we can rewrite the strapline to shorten it or at least have a go, Damz, I'll suggest it tomorrow.
I've angled it a bit more that it was on the original design and it does go with the rest of the design but even so it might be better to straighten. They do seem to like their angled text .
Leafy, I think that is why I prefer option A too, that there seems to be less clean space in option B.

No angling then :teehee:. It must be a bit like comic sans . We've got rid of all the other angled text, I think .

Well done Raspberry
Because what big successful or commercial websites do you see angled text on? NONE!!!

Hi,
I've just come across this Google Website Optimizer (http://www.google.com/websiteoptimizer/tour.html) and thought it may be of some use to you as it compares different pages/layouts to see which one gets the best results and it's free!!
