View Full Version : Another party Q - plates or boxes?
I had thought of doing food boxes, so I can prepare most of it in advance, with different sandwiches (ham, jam or egg) & crisps on the table (and some carrot sticks, cucumber sticks, cherry toms, grapes, raisins too) then the following in the boxes:
Mini sausages x 2
Choc mini roll
Does that sound ok? I guess I was just concerned that I would be limiting the choice compared to what I would put out on the tables otherwise, but would most kids be ok with the above?
IMO, waaaay too much food going on  I'm always staggered at the wastage and having done both party plates & individual boxes I'd definitely say boxes are the way forward as less wasted and the kids love them. Next party I do I will stick to:
1 roll each (make mostly ham, some cheese & some jam & once they're sat down go round & hand them out and put leftovers on the table)
1 savoury extra (couple of cocktail sausages OR sausage roll)
1 sweet extra (mini roll OR french fancy)
1 bit of fruit or veg (apple & grapes OR cuc carrot sticks)
a few bowls of crisps on the table then ice cream cones/sundaes for pud or a yogurt in the box.
Excellent advice there MrsC, I'll definitely rethink what I'm putting in :thumb: especially as we have 35 kids coming & this party is costing waaaaay more than I thought it would!!
I always do boxes. Much, much less wastage.
Actually, I don't even buy boxes, just brown paper takeaway carriers from cash and carry.
I just do
1 round of sandwiches (I make half ham and half jam and then put 1 of each in the box)
couple of sausage rolls and few cocktail sausages
Penguin (or whatever is on offer in Tesco)
packet of hulahoops (or whatever is cheap/on offer)
carton of juice/fruit shoot
I used to put fruit or a box of raisins or something in but they never got eaten
Then an icecream cone each, or last time I made jelly in paper cups and put a scoop of icecream in the top
