Im registered with 2 agencies just now i got great feedback about me and my cv from both how i was a great candidate etc

so i had job from agency b on friday 2nd int today

Agency a has got me an interview for end of week

Yesterday i was talking to agency a and was told if i get offered job via agency b to consider carefully etc without being able to say reasons but he has 2 people on his bookd that have been offered and turned the job down in the last month

is this dirty tactics do you think or something i should consider? the beand i would say is def less well known and probably a little less stable than the job im going for end of week but not about to go under either its actually a brand that is growing and although the one end of week is a big household brand the one today is probable still known by most people

im obviously still going to int and im meeting a different person

im just all bleurgh as im having to put max into nursery full time as for me to have a career in the future i need to as my roles dont seem to exist part time really, financially i could.not go back at all but im looking about the future. If im doing this it needs to be 100% right and i was wobbling before this!

I may get flamed from the girls here that work for employment agencies but it is a tactic I reckon.

They make their money by sending you to work through them or getting a commission when you get permanent employment. If you take the job from agency b you are no longer available to work for agency a.

Use your own judgement and possibly ask opinions of anyone impartial. I wouldn't listen to an agency when giving negative feedback on a rival, tbh.

Agree with BK, agencies are not working for YOU, they are working for the companies who pay them so I'd not take any advice from them. You have to make the decision yourself.

I once got a "row" from a recruitment consultant for not telling her I'd been offered a job via another agency (a job which she had also had on her books, I'd asked to be put forward for, and she had not done it). You have to think about what you want.

I agree with bluekat.

What have you got to lose by going to the interview? I hope it goes well if you decide to go for it

I am in the same line of work as you and I can honestly say that you are doing the right thing about thinking about your future as I am being laughed at regards the salary I was on 4 years ago plus I am not even getting put forward by most agencies as they have seen me taking time out of general employment and finance as a major negative.

Agencies use tactics I am afraid. If you have been told that 2 people have turned the job down then question the company on this. If you feel happy with the company, then go for it. Download their accounts, doesn't cost much, so you can see their financial position, find as much news out about them. If they are going through hard times there might be a snipped of info on the web.

Hope all goes well whatever you decide but remember agencies are purely middlemen and it is sales driven. You will rarely find an agency that is caring about you!

When you say those roles don't exist is there no way you could get a full time job and then apply for part time working? Everyone I know who works part time has had to do it this way.

My gut is that it is dirty agency tactics as i know its all sales commission based

why cant you just apply for a job direct these days!?

Anyway went well like the feel of it ceo really threw me a curve ball though

scarfy its staying current that is the thing and role is important to me id be bored doing a lower level position and i dont even.financially have to go back at all so it purely is for my future career

requesting part time is an option but at month and year ends workloads and deadlines dont really work with part time as at those times its all hands on deck - i work in management accounts so when management financial controllers etc want something being on a half day or leaving at 2 etc doesnt go down too great in this field id probably get laughed out the office tbh and suppose when people want to know the accounts and how well the business has done to budget they wont want to.wait for me to get their result as ive went home iyswim extreme example obviously!

Good luck lisnic :higgies: I would be suspicious that it was agency dirty tactics too

As for part time work, I am in a professional role and have tried various work patterns over the years, although I am back to full time work now :sigh: I have found it much easier to work full days and have days out of the office than to try to leave part way through a day. I have always found that I get calls or emails in busy times on my days off but it is much easier to manage than part days IME. The only way to avoid it is job sharing, but job share posts are like hen's teeth!

How did it go lisnic?

I got a job.....Finance Manager. Employee number 4 of a company that doesn't want to grow, the lady who owns the company wants to spend more time on holiday and with some of her other companies so wants someone to take over from her. Full time role but nice company, decent money plus bonuses and trips away as bonuses. They are being slightly flexible as I can adjust my lunch hour.
