View Full Version : What are your evening meal and bed time timings?
Sorry for the crap title! But as it says what time do your LO's have their evening meal and what time do they go to bed?
Our afternoon routine has always been a bit hit and miss and there isn't really a routine to it anymore but I want to try and get some semblance of order (new years resolution is to be a bit more organised a less lazy!)

In theory, tea is at 4.45-5pm, play until bath at 6pm, milk (& story/Teletubbies  ) at 6.30 and bed at 7pm. It quite often goes awry though.

I try to have DD eating her tea between 5.30pm and 6pm, bedtime during term time is from 7pm to 7.30pm on a school day, hopefully!
When my husband hasn't got overtime he can get their dinner done for around 5.30pm and bath at 6.30, then bed at 7-7.15.
When he has overtime I dont get their dinner on the table until about 6.15 so everything is pushed back by around 45 mins.
Boys eat at 6pm, baths start at 7ish and they should be in bed at 7.45, with DS1 reading till 8.00pm.

Fri-Mon (when they're at home) the kids will have their dinner/tea at around 5pm, bath time starts at 6/6:30pm and they're in asleep (or at least in bed in the process of dropping off) by 7:30pm.
Tues-Thurs (when they're at nursery) they have their tea at nursery so we get home at 6pm, they have a snack and watch TV until OH gets home at 6:45pm when we start bath and try and get them in bed by 7:30pm - it can run over on these days but they're normally asleep by 8pm
At the weekends we tend to have our main meals all together either at lunchtime or all together at 5pm but during the week when we're at work I do the kids seperate meals and then OH and I eat together once they're in bed, around 8:30pm

I normally try to get dinner ready for 5.30-6pm and then both kids are in bed around 7-7.30pm. It has been like that for as long as I can remember.
Tea between 5 and 6 (more likely to be 6 every day now that S is f-t at school and C sleeps til 5.30) then telly, bath around 6.30pm on bath nights and PJs/teeth/story around 7. I'm aiming for lights out at 7 on school nights now.

My 2 boys are now 4.5 YO and 8months, and they both have their dinner, together at 5.pm.
Then they play for 20 minutes or so, and have baths at 6pm, and Baby N goes into his cot at 7pm, and sleeps there & then, and DS1 goes into his bed at maybe 7.15pm and has 1 story!

Tea is usually around 5.30pm, then a bit of a play while Mr S and I cobble food together and eat our own meal (it's impossible to all eat together while the twins can't self-feed!), we start going up for baths between 6.45 and 7, and the babies are usually both down by 7.45 at the absolute latest.
They have tea about 5pm, maybe a bit before, then sometimes bath (couple of times a week) 5.30. A (1yr) goes to bed at 6.30pm and Louis (4.5yr) goes at 7.30pm.

When we eat as a huge family it's about 6pm. Mr G and I on own our 8pm ish.
My two have tea about 5.45-6, then a bit of tv, upstairs at 6.45 and in bed by 7.30. Sometimes earlier, sometimes later depending on whether it's bath night and how much faffing has occurred.
Mine are 9 and 5 and we tend to eat at around 6pm then baths at 7pm, bed for DD2 at 7.30pm, DD1 at 8pm

Mine are 7, 6 and 3 and the two older ones love their sleep. They have tea around 4-4.30 and are in bed with showers / baths or homework done by 6 - 6.15. The older two are straight to sleep but the younger one is a nightmare and seems to do his own thing!

Tea at 5. Up for a bath at 6.50 (after ITNG). Out of bath at 7ish, say goodnight to DS1, then into DS2's room for his bottle. I'm usually back downstairs by 7.20-7.30.
Ours isn't that far out, tea between 4.30 and 5, bath at 6 on the nights they have one and bed by 7,I was just a bit worried that if tea was much later than 5 that it didn't leave enough time for it to settle and have a bath or go straight to bed.

On the days that DH/Mum/GPsIL/I pick E up from school at 3.30 it's tea between 4.30 and 5.30, bath at 7 and bed straight after. On Fridays she goes to afterschool club so by the time I pick her up W has eaten at nursery so it's just a case of feeding her as soon as I can so they can have a bath and go to bed as they are shattered by Friday.

Tues and Weds D has activities after school so routine fits round those.
The other week days it's tea for all 3 at 5.
I tidy up the carnage while D and A  watch TV and T fights me for the vacuum until bath time at 6pm.
Bed for the boys at 6.45, D is straight to sleep, T can chat away in his cot for a good 30-40 mins or so but is happy to be in there so I am happy too! A has a feed and is in her cot by 7pm.
I then breathe a mahoosive sigh of relief and sit down for a bit before making dinner for Oh and I to have when he gets in at 8-8.30 ish.

For years we ate at 6.30 - 7ish and they went to bed afterwards, generally weren't in bed until after 8. For the last term however, I've been doing dinner at around 5.30 - 6 and still trying to get them towards bed straight afterwards. They tend to be in bed for 7.30 most nights but only the 5yo goes to sleep, I can hear the 7yo and the baby still awake now.
The eldest has brownies and beavers a couple of nights a week, I try and feed them beforehand but we don't get back from picking her up until 7.30+ so they are in bed a lot later on those nights

Just out of interest those who don't eat with the kids , why not?
We always have done, mainly because we are generally all home about the same time (even when they were small they would be collected from nursery/CM at 5.30 at we'd all ear as soon as possible after that.

Because my OH doesn't get home until at least 8pm, and my children have gone to bed well before that (thank God )

Kids eat tea around 4.30 and have a supper about 6pm then bath (but not every night) and bed routine 6.30 and we should be downstairs by 7pm.
We do eat all together sometimes in the evening but generally 4.30/5 is too early for us.

Bed at 5.30? Really?
ETA in our house - J's evening meal any time between 5 and 7, bed anywhere between 7 and 9. If we're all here before 7, we'll all eat together.

If bed was 5:30pm here she'd be up at 4:30am. Sod that.
Dinner for wallopette is between 5:30 and 6:00pm (on days when we're at home) and bed at eight. Been that way since she was around six months? Maybe earlier?
We eat around eight. I'm just not ready to eat at 5:30pm.

This - DH isn't usually home until too late for the kids. We always eat lunch together at weekends and on holidays though.
ATM, tea for the boys is around 5 pm, bath time 640, bed around 715. They are much more tolerant of changes to mealtimes than they used to be now, so we have gone to restaurants at 6 pm and they have managed to wait - but of course I'm about to add another baby into the mix who will probably be the same as the boys (too knackered to eat much later)
We eat together at 6
I frantically tidy kitchen or at least begin to tidy as they finish. (I eat quickly to do this!)
7pm Baths, milk, teethbrushing
DS story and bed- 8ish
DD story and bed 8:15
Does anyone wait until kids are in bed to tidy the kitchen? This is where I get super busy, but always want it done right now! :loco:

I do usually  - it's just easier with them out of the way, although I do prefer it on the days I've managed to get it sorted before they go in the bath .
Mine usually have tea around 5-5.30ish dependent on if we've been out that afternoon and how organised I am, then go in the bath around 6-ish (always before half six) and bed around 7ish.
We only eat together on the days DH works from home (usually once a week) and at least once on the weekends. He doesn't get home until 6pm which I know isn't that late but I always think it's a bit late for the kids to eat at the moment and I'm never organised enough to have a family meal on the table at 6pm (must work on this!) and I always think it's too much of a rush to then go straight into the bath afterwards. And I think they need to be in bed around 7pm at the moment, as they get older this will get later and it'll be easier to all eat together then.

Tea @ 5.30 for E (who's 5)
Bath @ 6.30pm.
Story @ 7pm and lights out around 7.30pm.
We don't eat with Esme as like others DH doesn't get home til 7.30pm. But we do eat together at the weekends, as I think it's quite important.
My DH usually gets home around 6.30pm so that's too late for DS2 to eat with us as it's his bedtime, and since I'm making tea for him about 5pm, DS1 just eats at the same time. He usually eats more when we are having for our tea about 7pm as well before he goes to bed! At the weekend we all eat together about 5.30

Bed at 5.30? Really?.
Yep. They used to read or play for half an hour but were fast asleep by 6pm. Sissy currently goes at 6:30 but once she goes down to one nap a day that'll be pulled back to 5:30-6. They woke anywhere from 6-7am.
