This crops up from time to time on me, but NEVER this bad

My scalp is so itchy that it is bleeding in places and it is driving me crazy

There are little red spots on it, but there are also like scabby bits

I could scream because it is winding me up SO much

What is causing it? Could it be stress? My body is reacting to stress in other ways too - heart palpitations, upset tummy etc

HELP PLEASE! What can I do?

Hey you, my head is the same, absolutely fricking awful. I need to dye my hair as I have so many greys but I can't because the psoriasis (sp?) is so bad. Anyway, I use a great shampoo (the name of which I can't remember as I have run out, Nizoral maybe?) I have to use it every wash but it does help. My dad also has some cream that is prescribed for his psoriasis called Fubicett, it works very quickly, overnight. I have loads of it on right now, all around my hair line.

Hello my friend with a matching minging head

Is that prescription only stuff? Should I go to the doctors then?

And yes, around the hairline is just AWFUL!!

oooh interesting, mine is a nightmare at the back of my neck and my whole head is sore. Hair is falling out in handfuls and I wondered if it was all related?

I might see if I can get an appointment to see what the doc says. I did buy the head and shoulders for itchy scalps yesterday to see if it helped.

Yep, sounds like psoriasis (http://http://www.nhs.uk/Conditions/Psoriasis/Pages/Treatment.aspx), MrB gets it and it comes and goes. He refuses to see the GP, but it's worse when he's stressed.

It really is worth going to docs, I've had this for years and they can prescribe the coal-tar shampoo and the Fubicett, I had a scalp biopsy years ago, which wasn't pleasant but they take it seriously.

I get the same thing and it is linked to my underactive thyroid, if I don't take my thyroid meds from forgetting them, within a couple of days I am itching like crazyyyyyyy! I too get this tiny patches of little lumps that I can't help but scratch.
Also same as chickenlips, I have to dye my hair but that always makes it worst and I have to wash my hair practically every day.
It gets a lot better when I'm taking my thyroid meds properly so could be worth asking for your tyroid levels to be checked.

DH suffers with this and I do too, to a lesser extent (nice!) DH has tried almost every product, both prescription and non-prescription, but we both swear by Alphosyl (sp?) You can buy this in any pharmacy, it might be on the shelves or you might have to ask for it.

I have this too and have had it off and on for quite a few years.

The only thing that works for me is Nizerol shampoo. There are two types the one in the shelf beside the t-gel and similar and the other which is behing the counter at the pharmacy. You don't need a prescription for it. I wet my hair and then massage it in to my scalp. I leave it on for around 10-15 minutes and then rinse off.

I am actually going to buy some more tomorrow as my scalp is driving me crazy just now.

I had similar over the summer and it turned out I had caught headlice from the children. Not that I'm suggesting you have them but it's maybe worth checking to rule it out.

Have you tried using a tea tree shampoo and/or conditioner? DD has an itchy head (irritation caused by other shampoos). I put her teatree conditioner on her each night and it helps. I use baby shampoo on her only about once a week, teatree conditioner seems cleansing enough in between. When dh uses the wrong conditioner on her:rolleyes:she gets itchier so I'm fairly certain she has some reaction to other products.

When I'm stressed I get excema on my neck & scalp. I suddely get sensitive to shampoos with SLS in it, so the only way to stop it itching is to switch to an SLS free shampoo.

T gel is ok for a quick fix, but if it keeps getting itchy you'll need to think about switching shampoos.

How is it now?
